2 Simple Questions - screamin demons

Still looking for a neck pickup?

You want to put a Screaming Demon in the bridge ..... Try the Jazz Bridge in the neck position.

This combination worked in my old LP Custom and an Explorer.

In my own experience, the top end can get a bit sharp/piercing in some guitars. It's certainly manageable, but when comparing to pickups like the Custom 5, JB, etc, it's definitely on the brighter side and "more open" if that makes sense. Definitely a sparkly/glassy top end rather than a warm/thick top end..

I agree with all of this. But if comparing to C5 and JB at nearly twice the output you reasonably can expect them to have more bass and mids and a softer high end. The Demon, by comparison, will naturally sound brighter...so will a Jazz and a 59. But the main difference aside from lower output and lower mids is clarity and articulation (I assume that is what you are, at least in part, referring to by "more open"). And I totally agree with that and that it sounds more "sparkly" and without the "warm/thick" top. And, as you say, any excess brightness that you hear in a Demon can easily be managed (by using 250k pots, or by rolling down the tone pot).

If anyone can think of these characteristics as a "problem" for a bridge pup, they are easily "fixed" by putting in an A8 magnet. The stock Demon is wonderful, as is, in the neck BECAUSE of these characteristics...so is the Jazz.

So, a Demon 8 in the bridge and a Demon or Jazz or a Pearly in the neck make a wonderful pair.

I threw an old Screamin' Demon I have here in to my 2009 Les Paul Trad Pro last night for kicks. It came stock with a Burstbucker 3 in the bridge. The sound is outstanding. About what I expected. I think I'll leave it in there and run it through the paces at band rehearsal this Sunday. I've always liked it in Strats.

Got home from rehearsal. I gotta say, the Screamin Demon in the Les Paul is really sweet. Better than I had hoped. Not overly bright at all. A little more growl and some sizzle for sure.
