Re: wax potting pickups
I had a similar problem in my Tele. I did the wax potting myself, and did not find it to be too difficult. Check the Facts pages on the main site and do a search. Also check the vault. There should be details on "how to" there. Basically you need to melt down some parrafin wax in a pot that you don't mind throwing away when you are done (getting the remaining wax out is close to impossible A double boiler pot is preferred). You need to melt enough wax to completely cover the PUP. When you dip the PUP watch it carefully you will see bubbles rising, when all the bubbles stop you can remove the PUP from the wax. Let the PUP cool on a paper plate. You must remove the Pickup cover before dipping the pickup in the wax. After the pup has been cooled you can reinstall the pup cover and dip it again ( you might not want to do this with a Strat pup the heat of the wax could melt the cover, with a Tele neck or HB it would be OK). Reinstall the PUP and you should be good to go. If this sounds like to much for you to do, a cmpetent tech should be able to handle this for a minimal fee.
