Why play a high output pup? Seriously, they aren't nearly as detailed with harmonics as pafs. I can get the most wicked demolishing Crunching Chunky tone with a sweet piddly paf at 7.6k in the bridge. Just get one with the most clarity and eq shape you like. THEN BOOST IT 25db WITH THE g0dd@mn SEYMOUR DUNCAN PICKUP BOOSTER! :dance:

I agree 100%! I had stock McCarty pickups at 9k and stock Burstbucker pro pickups at 8.3k for the bridge. My band plays very heavy modern hard rock and those pickups slammed for our sound. I had guys coming up after the set comlimenting on such a big, thick crushing sound. All of this with a little 8.3K BB and McCarty pickup set. I also had great compliments when i had a Duncan 59 in the bridge! The C-5 is great but even with that I think it may be a bit much for most modern amps. :dance:

I am learning that with the right amp, a Duncan 59, Pearly gates, Alnico II Pro, or Jazz will do any style from jazz to thrash!

I've tried some lower output pups that I like but I still come back to the 59N/C5 combo in my PRS McCarty It can do Vintage tones but still has the power to Rock hard when I need it, With the C5 using split coils it still has plenty of bite with out being lifeless!

Back to the C5? But the C-5 is considered a HOT pickup.
