Weber 1230-55

This is Webers take on a 55 Hz cone G12H30 Celestion.

I picked one up a few weeks ago to try in my old Deluxe and I am very impressed with it.

No real point other than I dig this speaker...carry on.

Re: Weber 1230-55

I've heard lots of good things about Webers. If the old Jensen in my 67 princeton reverb ever dies I may consider one. Or maybe try one in an extension cab for my Express 5:50.

Re: Weber 1230-55

I use Weber 10 in my Plough Front Super and like them a lot.

This 12 wasn't really on my radar but it popped up on craigslist and was too cheep to not try...plus I always worry about the old G12 alnico Celestion I've been using in that Deluxe so I decided to try it.

It's not much like that old G12 (not that I expected it to be!) but it is a great speaker...nice clear top end, huge nasty low mids and a good bit of thump for a 1x12 open back combo plus a bit of familiar greenback speaker crunch if that's tour thing

Re: Weber 1230-55

hmm... interesting ive been trying to decide between a hemp cone 1230 and the 1230-55

Re: Weber 1230-55

well i have an old english v30 thats cooked. the 1230 has the same magnet structure so i plan to send it to weber for a recone

Re: Weber 1230-55

I'm not a huge fan of hemp cones but will admit that in some amps they are a great option.

That said this 1230-55 is a screaming speaker...killer crisp highs, nice percussive nature and the low mids are fat and sort of nasty...not unlike a good Greenback but bigger and fuller.

I dig it!

Re: Weber 1230-55

if its a bigger fuller greenback im so into that

I feel the same way!

I don't have a Greenback anymore to try but that sort of textured crunchy sound a GB has is in there...the lows and low mids are a lot more full and the top end is stronger...it's not so much brighter as it is more clear.
