Weber Blue Dog

What are your experiences with these speakers?

I ordered a speaker cab loaded with a Weber Blue Dog, I was just kinda picking what was in front of me, you know (TGP trade deal), and I'm curious what to listen for. It'll be in a closed back 1x12.

So, what are the characteristics, good and bad, of these speakers?

I must assume I have the cheaper of the two versions of this speaker (Ceramic, as opposed to AlNiCo) since I got the 1x12" cabinet, the Blue Dog, and the shipping for...let's say, less than a pair of Duncans.

Thanks team!

P.S. I am in this awful habit of buying first and then asking "what does this thing I just bought sound like?! :laugh2:

Cool. Is that the speaker you recorded your Mini Trey demo clips with? It was very clear and decently full there.

yes it is. it represents the cleans very well. i discovered later though, that the reason anything with gain on it was so fizzy was that one of the mods i installed (presence control) had gotten bumped and was beginning to short out on the chasis. after i fixed that, all the fizziness went away.

so take it for cleans, i just ran into a analogman bicomp then through a bunch of pedals and into the amp. id ignore it for the OD'd clips because they sounded like crap and at the time, i didnt know why.

Re: Weber Blue Dog

I haven't listened in a while, but I remember the clean clips are what stood out to me. Very "woody." I am looking forward to hearing this speaker as well as the cab --- I looked at the construction in pics, and it wasn't just thrown together to sell --- It was thoughtfully made with durability considered.

Glad to hear yours is ceramic too, since I really liked the tone you were getting. Granted, I'm not running a hollowbody, or Analogman effects, but you know, the speaker never sounded boxy or shrill or woofy or any other thing that you'd notice about a spaker. It just sounded clear.

Re: Weber Blue Dog

yeah, i was really happy with it. i wanted to get the alnico but it would modding the cab and retrofitting it since the alnicos are significantly bigger. overall i havent looked back and been sad about installing it.

Re: Weber Blue Dog

I use Blue bell and Blue dog Weber's in a open back combo and am very, very happy with that combination.

Re: Weber Blue Dog

Glad to hear it. FedEx says it's expected to deliver on Friday, so I'm hoping it gets here in time for my weekend gig. Nothing like trial-by-fire!

I was playing this head (Blackheart 5 watt) through the same old open back last night, and it just doesn't have any punch. Hopefully a closed back cab will tighten up the bass.
