Weber MiniMass, 50 watt

Well, I cruised by my house on my lunch hour to see if this little critter had been delivered, which it had, so I toyed with it for a few quick minutes. My rather brief first impressions are good, but I will definitely be spending some serious time with the unit this week (girlfriend is out of town ;)).

The main things I made note of are that aside from the compression you'll get from attenuation, it does very little to change the amp's natural voice. Also, the built in treble-compensation circuit for higher (quieter) levels of attenuation seems to do its job very well. I had the preamp volume around 12 o'clock, the master around 2:30, and the Weber set at a level at which I could talk in a normal voice and be heard by others in the room, and the tone was far from muddy. Part of that could be that I run a lot of mids and not a lot of bass, but hey if it works with my natural settings that's great :). Seems like a pretty smart $100 so far though.

I'll post more impressions as I work with this thing more, including testing out it's DI capabilities tonight (clips if it works out well), in the next few days.

Re: Weber MiniMass, 50 watt

There's no substitute for really pushing the power amp tubes hard IMHO, and my Blues Jr. would be painfully loud w/o the Weber MiniMass. You do lose some tone if you crank it down far enough to be able to carry on a conversation, but it's a wonderful little box.

Re: Weber MiniMass, 50 watt

Yup, my amp is set so the preamp is at about 3/4 full, and the power amp is at about 3/4 as well. The webber mass is at about 3-4. It's plenty loud and sounds PHENOMINAL. Thank you weber mass! *holds up weber mass, and smiles like a cooperate whore* :)
