Hey guys

I'm currenlty finishing up 1 guitar for a fellow forum-ite
and have officially begun construction of 3 other forum-ite (plus one touring musician)

check out the inprogress section of the webite (which is comming along slowly - i kinda stink at the web building)

i know its a shameless plug, but some of the wood i'm using is just too tasty to keep to myself - just had to share the love

Those are some nice flames on the double cuts.

A suggestion for your website, put the nav buttons on all the pages. It'll make the navigation easier and give some structure to the site.

What kind of finish is going on Shawn's DC? That flame maple looks insane, and I love the inlay!

Re: Website update - lost of pics of forum members guitars

The site and all your work looks great man. I wish I had the cash to work with you on making me a "Jolly Special".

Re: Website update - lost of pics of forum members guitars

i really needed to see something like that.

that maple you have is just killer

Re: Website update - lost of pics of forum members guitars

cool stuff man!!!

Re: Website update - lost of pics of forum members guitars

Aaron, all of the wood looks great unfinished and that burst on the first guitar is gorgeous. :notworthy

Would you mind telling me if you used water-based or alcohol based dyes? Also, are you using nitro or have you tried the water-based lacquer that I've been reading about?

Thanks for sharing your work.

Chip

Thanks for all the support guys
The guitars are finsih with both water and alcohol based dyes (depending on the particular dye/color)

and nitro

Great looking! I like the timeless look of the body design, which has it's own original look.

Let me ask you something about the wood. Where do most upstart guitar builders buy their exotic woods? I've been thinking of starting a business of sourcing exotic wood in Central America, and shipping it to the US for distribution. Do you think I'd be able to find plenty of clients or distributors?

Re: Website update - lost of pics of forum members guitars

i gotta be honest
most of my wood guys (and i use a couple) are sometimes hard to deal with and other times a pleasure - so i'm always looking for new suppliers
I don't know how lucrative an industry it is - many wood guys cmoplain about ebay killing it for them a bit
but i guess you need industrial planes, saws, and kilns and you're ready to go
PM me if you want to talk further

Re: Website update - lost of pics of forum members guitars

Awesome stuff. Are you ever interested in making neck thru guitars?

Re: Website update - lost of pics of forum members guitars

thanks again guys
I dont' make neck throughs
I've pretty much got my templates and al my tooling ready to go
I make set neck and bolt in using the exact same dovetail joint that is the full width of the fingerbaord and extends to the front of hte neck pickup
this provides sufficient tone transfer, and excellent sustain if i say so myself
my neck joints are so tight you can pick the guitar up (also because its a dove tail not just a tenon joint) and swing it over your head with no glue
my issue with neck throughs is, in the event something happens, a neck heaven forbid warps, or is damages (though my headstocks don't break off because of shallower headstock angle and neck stablizing volute) the neck can be replaced fairly easily
build a new neck and put her in there
however, with a set neck - the whole guitar is shot
and accidents to happen
plus I don't necessarily likek the tone given to a guitar when the birdge is mounted to the same wood as the neck
i.e. les pauls use a combination of mahogany and maple
but with a set neck, that's not an option
set neck guitars are not bad, per se, but i have reasons why i don't do em
sorry buddy
