Week sound?

Hey I've got some problems. I'm getting hardly any sound when i turn down the volume knobs. The distortion only goes down a little bit and then almost all volume is cut out. My guitar also buzzes when I touch the screws that lower and raise the pickup. Any suggestions?:smash:

Re: Week sound?

Uhm what? Your sound gets weaker when turning down the volume? Of course, that's what it's there for.
The thing with the distortion is normal.
The thing with the screws (which are your pickup's poles) is normal too...

Re: Week sound?

well I know the sound is supposed to get weaker but it nearly cuts out completely at about 3/4 of the turn. And i'm pretty sure the poles aren't supposed to buzz loudly when i touch them because I've never played any other guitar that does that. Something isn't grounded properly but I'm not sure what.

Re: Week sound?

The buzzing sounds like a ground problem, like the ground wire to the bridge broke or isn't soldered properly -- though usually in that case it's the opposite: it STOPS buzzing when you touch a string or polepiece.

The first problem sounds like a bad volume pot with a bad taper.

Re: Week sound?

Not sure what model of pickups they are but they are Seymour Duncan double-coil. The amp is a tube. And it does buzz a little when I'm not touching the strings but when I touch them the buzzing does go away.

Re: Week sound?

could have a bad pot, could have a shorting pot, or wire shorting out, loose ground tab on the pot- open that sucker up and take a close look inside.

Re: Week sound?

??? Usually if the bridge is properly grounded touchig it or the strings reduces hum ;)

?? Zhang, been drinking again? :beerchug:

That's not my experience. When the guitar buzzes but stops when you touch the strings or bridge, it means YOU are the ground for the bridge and strings because the ground wire from the bridge is broken or disconnected from the ground side of the circuit somehow.

Re: Week sound?

First of all I know hardly anything about electronics:smack: . So if I open up my guitar what exactly am I looking for that could be the problem?:?:
