Weird Gibson Score

So I was browsing through Guitar Centers used stuff & I came across this interesting guitar that was labeled as a Sonex 180 Deluxe & marked for 50 bucks. however after talking to the manager at the shop he thought it was a Sonex body with a different neck, but the fact that it has a Kahler was a perk, especially since it was only 80 bucks shipped .. After doing some digging I found another one just like it in existance however it had zebra pickups... It should be shipping out from the Guitar Center in Arlington fairly soon, heres a pic of it.. Apparently its an 84 Gibson Invader

Anyone else see one of these around?

Re: Weird Gibson Score

Thanks guys, I have no idea what kind of pickups are in it but i think its pretty interesting... I'm already brainstorming different customization ideas

Re: Weird Gibson Score

Looks like an original Sonex to me. They came with a couple different headstocks and pickups. Some of them had the original sonex winds in them and some of them came with the Wilde labeled Bill Lawrence 400 series pickups. For $80 shipped, you got yourself a steal my man! Enjoy your new find!

Here's some good info on them. I remember when they came out; if you even MENTIONED a Sonex, you got made fun of, lol. I always thought they were pretty cool actually, but at that time you could get a Les Paul Custom for around $499 new as well if it sat long enough. I lived a few towns over from Rondo Music (the folks who sell Agiles now) and I always remember seeing a white Les Paul custom for $499 and a white doubleneck for $999. Those two guitars were there for what seemed like forever.

Re: Weird Gibson Score

Got a trem bar, black bell knobs & knob position indicators on the way for the Invader, had to include a black gibson poker chip switch plate to put on my red dean z :naughty:

Re: Weird Gibson Score

Just wait till the Invader gets white pickup rings... & my Dean Z is getting some zebra pickups too :naughty:

mmmmm me like.. what I did with my dean split tail was have a white neck pickup and a black bridge pickup looked pretty cool

Re: Weird Gibson Score

Gibson did all kinds of Heavy Metal FAIL in the 80's. They just didn't get it (gee - sound familiar?)

But no doubt - there are absolutely some funky cool things if you are into them.

Rock hard and rock proud!
