weird problem..i dunno if its the amp or the cable..help

hey,

just plugged into the amp. no sound. made sure everything was right. volume pot, amp volume, secure cable joints. strummed a bit. there was sound for like 2 seconds..and then gone. turned it off. made sure the amp power cord was secure. fired it up. surprisingly, there was sound. no issues within the last 1-2 hours.

do you have an idea of what may have caused the problem?

is it serious?(well i guess not, cause its solved now)

tried a different guitar/cord? might be guitar wiring.. next time it happens, plug a lead you know works into the amp and touch the tip with your finger, pref. on a gain channel. if you get a signal, its the guitar

could be lotsa stuff, maybe wiring in the guitar is loose, bad lead cords, or a short in the amp

holydirt, what do you mean by a short in the amp? i assume it was the amp cause it kept farting..lol..thanks

I'm guessing its the wiring in the guitar. My pickup selector is tweaked, just the other show I played it died...I, too, checked all the plugins and couldn't find it. Hit the toggle to Bridge and sound. Flipped back and I had noise on Neck as well. Try switching a lot on this to see if that's it. Or the pots... Anything really.

Another this is, connection to speakers (your amp). My rhythm guitarist's amp was shorting out a lot and then going back to normal for some time. But, like you'd guess, on our last show - amp cut out, wouldn't go back. Had to give it to repair man.

I'm sorry, but this is really open to any factor. I hope you find it.

like a wire got knocked lose or heat stripped it and that wire is crossing with another... it really could be many things, get it checked by an amp tech

thanks guys..appreciate all the help. i'll get it checked out. im sure its not my guitar because i tried it with other amps and it didn't happen. i think its my amp. my pickup selector is fine.
