I've noticed a problem that's been affecting the sound of my Ibanez recently. When I play single notes on the high e string from around the 9th to 13th fret I get that wavering sound that you get when you do unison bends but don't bend perfectly in tune. I'm getting this sound when I'm playing on one string which I found quite odd.

Lower all your pickups down, and see if it goes away. It could be magnetic string pull.
Check the intonation. Check the height of the saddles. Put a capo on the first fret and see if it goes away, to eliminate the possibility of a poorly cut nut slot.
Make sure the saddle isn't worn. Run some sandpaper across it to clean up any ridges or burrs.

Hmm this effect could mean vibration of some mechanical parts causing synchronization and thus this unison bend effect. Put your ear down across the string and try to identify the source. Is towards the headstock or the bridge? Maybe some parts in the tremolo bridge are loose and rattling?

I get this exact same thing on my ESP Eclipse with EMG 57/66, and Gibson Explorer with the het set, and on my Epi Explorer with the BW. Drives me nuts sometimes, because nothing helps. It's worst around 12th and 13th fret, and more noticable with the bridge pickup than neck.
Oddly, my Fender tele with JB don't do it.
