Weird Sounding Tone

Over the past couple days my tone has suddenly gotten very annoyingly snappy and icepick-y bright, almost like single coils, and it happens in both pickups. The guitar in question is a Hamer Sunburst XT with a Duncan Distortion bridge and a Jazz Model neck. I have tried a couple different amps and it sounded the same in each. Is it something to do with the electronics (capacitor, pots) or something else?
Thanks

Re: Weird Sounding Tone

you've possibly split the humbuckers (electronically) through some control you are not aware of. give those knobs some pushing, and see whether it gets back to the tones you are used to.

Re: Weird Sounding Tone

Did you use a different cable or maybe a different type of pick? Do you practice with the speaker towards your ears or no? Is the speaker on the floor or propped up off the floor?

Tried different cables, different picks, same thing. Amp is on the floor facing me.

Re: Weird Sounding Tone

The split knob is pressed in, but are they prone to fail and do weird things like that?

Re: Weird Sounding Tone

Ok, well maybe there has been a break in the internal mechanism (yes, that does happen) and it is stuck in the split position. Remove the series link wires from the switch and tape them and see how that sounds.

Alright, I unhooked the split wires and that seemed to work. Thanks a ton
