Weird sounds from Fender amp.

I've owned a Fender Champion 30 DSP for a few months now and I noticed that when unplugged it produces some really strange sounds. If I adjust the volume knob on channel 1 (no gain) I get a screech and some really odd almost warble-like sounds similar to something out of an am radio getting tuned or from a vcs3 synthesizer.

Anyone know what might cause that?

Re: Weird sounds from Fender amp.

Amps with IC chips sometimes have a way to reset the logic, but I'm not sure if your amp has that. It's very likely an IC chip going bad. Or it's oxidized pots, in which case you'd want to spray Deoxit into each pot and turn them dozens of times. Spray out each jack and plug a cable into it a bunch of times.

If spraying out the pots and jacks doesn't make the problem go away, pull the chassis out and heat up all the solder connections to the input jack, in case there's a cold solder joint.

If none of that works, take the speaker out, remove the handle and corner caps, then toss it into the garbage.
The whole amp is worth less than a bench fee to fix it.

If it makes the noises as you turn the pot, I'd start with cleaning the pots as GJ said.

Fixed it! Pots just needed a good clean. Had plenty of time to kill while I waited for the poly on my strat neck to dry. Thanks guys!
