Weird things I'm GAS'ing for

Re: Weird things I'm GAS'ing for

Also, I'm dying for a decent Strat. Something like a high-end Squier or a G&L Legacy would be perfect. Nothing too fancy.

Just buy a Squier Japan for $250-350 (make sure you get good alder wood and not a JP neck bolted to plywood though), load her up with a set of CS 69's or 2 CS 69's and a good bucker, and maybe add locking tuners and a roller nut

Aint gonna be beat for less than a grand... and if you can swing a grand or near there, get an ESP Vintage Plus and enjoy having the best

For the life of my I don’t understand why Orange amps are a big fad now. They were crap back in the 70s and they are still crap. Nasty sounding amps. And not in a good way.

Amen to that!

Finally, someone with sense... personally, I guess it's the oddball look that draws people? Cuz soundwise, they're crap.

Really only 4 big amp companies make much stuff worth a damn: Peavey, Marshall, Laney, Mesa... with honorable mention for PRS, but they're kinda uncommon. Fender? Not a fan

Re: Weird things I'm GAS'ing for

youre right, peavey amps are much better than fenders. and bat cat. and matchless. and pure 64. and /13. and friedman. and soldano. and fuchs. and bogner. and 65 amps. and fargen. and budda. and vox. and hiwatt. and dr. z. and two rock. and tone king. and victoria. and morgan. and...

Re: Weird things I'm GAS'ing for

Are they prone to feedback at higher volume?

mine is not at all

I remember jamming with an acquaintance that had just got a new Thinline when they first came out, it squealed like a pig throughout the jam. I don't know if the newer ones have that problem. I also remember that during that jam, he blew the speaker in an old Vox 1-15 bass amp he had borrowed from a friend, I was glad it wasn't me that did that.

Now you're talking just pure gibberish man; come to your senses. The Peavey Bandit SLAYS every single one of those amps, no question.......

I know a guy who plays in a Neo Modern Jazz Retro Polka Funk/70's Punk Revival Ska Band playing nothing but modern classical interpretations of Engelbert Humperdinck compositions and he does it all with the Bandit. Complete tonal slaying.

That guy has the best Tonez ever.

The Peavey Bandit may have "tonez", but I know a guy who nails early VH tone using just a Squier strat through a CRATE amp and 3x BOSS DS-1s (gain stacking).

That CRATE has toanz.

Re: Weird things I'm GAS'ing for

These days I'm in a place where GAS doesn't bother me much. I'm looking forward to finishing my Charvel Model 2 rebuild, and then I'd like to get my hands on an electric 12. That's pretty much it. Unlike the OP I'm definitely interested in chimey rhythm tones with a few Zeppelin-esque things on the side.

Yamaha Pacifica PAC-303-12 (~$300): The same ideas as the Fender for a lot less money. The biggest differences are a head-adjust truss rod and a smaller body and guard with only two pots instead of the usual three.

At the moment I've got bills to deal with before a new guitar so it's all academic. In the end I'll probably go with the Schecter since it just makes the most sense. Who knows, maybe something else cool will fall into my lap instead.

Found a PAC303-12 for $200 on GC used yesterday, so that answers this question. I don't have a ship confirmation yet, but hopefully I'll be posting an NGD in the next few days...

Oranges have an awesome tone. They are not for solo guys, but when you slam good riffing the low mid roar feels like a punch in the chest. I like that.

Re: Weird things I'm GAS'ing for

I've been eyeing one of these recently:

Jul18_LNU_SeafoamPedals_Trident_WEB.jpg

You get a volume and drive control for bass, mids, and treble. The little switches dictate what specific frequency band you are controlling.

Re: Weird things I'm GAS'ing for

7 string archtop. A guy I know on Facebook has one, and while I've had plenty of 7 strings, I've never done the high A.

I have an Ibanez with a low B. It’s kind of weird doing it at 24.75. I’ve go flatwounds on it, and it sounds pretty good.
