It's a 15 watt tube, which can get pretty loud for smaller gigs. If you want it a little louder, you could boost it with a pedal. That should get you loud enough for a gig.

There are all kinds of mods you can do to it. You can find 'em all over the web. I like the volume at about 6 for classic rock with the Blues Junior. Just my personal preference, though.

Just mess around with it. You'll find the settings that you like, or you won't and you'll sell it or trade it. Easy enough.

LOVE MINE!!! i play all kinds of styles with it and it takes pedals pretty well, so it's a versatile little bugger!!! i play it with a full band pretty cranked and i mic it and it does pretty good...i'd like a little more headroom but it gets the job done!

sweet! i was reading some interview with lenny kravitz and he was saying how he loved his fender amps (i always tought he played marshalls) do you think that this amp can get close to that raw dirty tone lenny has??

Re: well gas hit me bad and i bought a new amp!

You say it is in mint condition. Does that mean it is pre-owned?
What speaker is in it?
First thing I'd do is make sure it has good tubes in it. Then I'd consider puting in a different speaker than the stock Fender speaker.
Anyway, speakers need to be broken in before they sound good anyway. So don't judge it too harshly if you don't like the tones from it right away.

Re: well gas hit me bad and i bought a new amp!

first thing i would do (and actually did) was get a set off JJ's from Eurotubes and slap them in there...big improvement in tone right off the bat...

now the biggest complaint with these amps is a "boxey" sound they can get if they are really cranked...and that's just do to the size of the cab...

they also get a bad rap for a bit of flub in the low end...again only when really cranked

and the reverb isn't the best...i never turn mine past 2 or 3.

there are a ton of mods that can be done and i keep debating on whether to get them or not, i like what i'm getting right now, but they say after you tweak these they become a fantastic amp..."the BillM mods" check this site out http://home.comcast.net/~machrone/bluesjunior.htm and also read this link to a GIGANTIC thread in the FDP called the "Blues Jr. Mafia" http://www.fenderforum.com/forum.html?db=&topic_number=94318&lastpost=2006-08-1621:43:54 ...there's TONS of info there and over 5300 posts in that one thread!!!!

Re: well gas hit me bad and i bought a new amp!

I can vouch for the awesomeness of the Billm mods. I did the reverb, the tone stack and the Presence mod. Totally different and fantastic sounding amp now.

Re: well gas hit me bad and i bought a new amp!

I like mine stock, but I'm thinking about just recapping the jr in general. I've heard the BillM mods from his site, and I didn't like it at all. Maybe it's just his record, maybe it's my speakers.

I suggest a new speaker and tubes. That's next on my list. I love mine, and the reverb is pretty decent. I keep mine at at 8-12 for rock, 5-8 for just about to break up and anything lower is pretty clean.

Re: well gas hit me bad and i bought a new amp!

I think they NEED a speaker swap unless you get it WITH the Jensens

WHAT ARE GOOD SPEAKERS FOR THIS AMP? Ideas?

Oh, and any thoughts on what these mods accomplish or sound like?

Re: well gas hit me bad and i bought a new amp!

i have a tweed model with the jensen in it. i think it sounds pretty good.

Re: well gas hit me bad and i bought a new amp!

It's funny there isn't more specific info about this amp on this forum. I just picked up a used one and asked about speaker changes. Jeremy was the only replier who uses a Greenback in his. He recommended an Eminence Texas Heat as another alternative.

I'll bet if Lew or Gearjonser asked the question we'd have 250 instant chick-peck replies, 3 of which would be useful.

Check out s2 amplification-they do some pretty cool things to a Blues Jr.!
