well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

If it had a 27" scale I´d be all over it, but with a standard gibson scale I already find tuning to c muddy as hell, don´t even want to imagine what it´s like on a seven where I generally go down to A or even G..

It WOULD however appear that they´re slowly getting their act together...

certainly better than their last attempt at it...

The headstock looks like a finnish instrument kantele.

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

I like it! But at 3 frickin grand?? Uh.... no..

Im kinda suprised Heafy is playing a non trem.. But I know he played pauls for a long time right when they hit big.
I liked his Dean Sig, but I dunno why it tanked so fast... GENE?????

Yeah before he signed with Dean around The Crusade he played a Black Beauty LPC...apparently he left Gibson because they refused to make him guitars that deviated from certain specs, my guess would be 7 string or two octave boards...who knows?

Then, both of them released their Dean sigs and had a falling out with them too, dunno if it was because of Dean Zelinsky being done with Armadillo or what...but they did complain about the build quality, I think it was the cheap vibrato units and weak headstocks their sigs came with. There's tons of videos of the guys beating the crap out of their Deans and I remember they taped/sharpied off the Dean logos on their guitars too...

Either way he went crawling back to Gibson, and I'm sure they didn't make that explorer into a signature model because:

a) They were afraid he would leave before the sigs had their 1st anniversary.

b) They just didn't think they'd sell.

Who was looking for a guitar with more than 24 frets to reach really high notes and harmonics a week or two ago? Track one of these down! It looks like it was made more for playing higher notes than for extending the guitar's range lower. It actually looks like a SHORT scale instrument unless the wider neck is making the frets look closer together!

I think guys who strum behind the nut would love that instrument too. The headstock is like a harp!

As for the "Low Down Rocker", I agree, the scale length should be like 27". A cool idea, but there's no point just going half way with it.

wtf is that?!

kill it!! KIIILLL ITT

this makes me gag... literally..

Someone mentioned a mirror guard. They made a run in 2002 that had mirror PG and truss cover. I have one and its awesome!!!

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

probably gonna end up around $2500 sale price though. ugh.

MF has it priced at $1999.
Still too much, imho.

I'll stick with my Carvin.
Or I'd get a Schecter Loomis instead.

Once you start getting in that $2000 and up range, you may as well talk to
KxK, RRR, Ran, Shamray, etc...
That way you get what "you" want.

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

well, they are only 7 years late with that...

Let's see what I can come up with as I type.

Explore the depths with the new Gibson Explorer 7.

"Rumbling Thunder far Down Under. Discover Australia with the new Explorers."

Ford, United, and Gibson need to do a package deal here :laugh2:

Anyone know how Shamray was doing? I was specing out a guitar with them a few years ago, then there was some national russian incident- I think it was terrorism- that halted shipping out of the country for quite some time

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

I love my Gibby Explorer but some the stuff they're doing these days is just hideous......the backward V, the upside down Explorer, and the Explorer with those ugly cut-outs to name a few. They won't deviate for high profile musicians that move instruments at retail but they'll release these atrocities? I don't get Gibson these days.

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

the only good to come of this is that this thread prompted me to get my explorer out of storage and play her today. ( I call her my Mistress) I remember what a hot number she is...

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

It's one of the few 'new' ideas that Gibson have come up with that actually looks quite well thought out.
But they're a bit late really and they could just put some of their R&D budget into this sort of thing rather than pointless niche ideas like the reverse V/Explorer and the Zoot.
I really don't know why they are always so reluctant to put trems on their guitars.
I could really go for an explorer with a floyd :)

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

It's definitely a step in the right direction for Gibson. Make the scale length longer to keep that low B together and I think the guitar will rock! The Explorer is my favorite Gibson (I like the fat tone and the fast response - it's a really fun guitar and it balances well on top of it all) and it'd be nice to see more development on it.

Re: well heres a cool one from gibson- 7 string explorer

Its pretty cool. Is good to see Gibson not make something that looks like like it was designed with an acid trip/crazy abstract art type strategy in mind. Bit of a bugger for all you seven stringers if it does have a standard gibbo scale tho!

With all the Ibanez, ESPs and Agiles you can get and luthiers you can go to that could make a 7 string Explorer cheaper than the Gibson, it's not really an issue to 7 string players that know what they want anyway.
