+1.

but i've found that they're not good for too much else.

i have a flextone II 1x12, and it's decent as a practice amp. i used to gig with it a few years ago and it gets loud enough, but it was hard to keep the speaker from getting too farty at higher volumes without an extention cab.

despite its modeling capabilities, it still sounds like a SS amp. i don't think any of the usable patches sound anything like what they're modeling, and the recording outs are pretty much useless. i can never really get it to sound how i'd like it to, but it gets the job done for practicing.

i think there are better amps out there for gigging, but its up to your ears to decide what sounds good to you.

I gigged with a Flextone I and only found that it sounded bad when I pushed the amp further than it was really meant to.

The more time I spend with my PodXT the more I like it. It's not balls-on all the time with the models, but there's usually enough there for me to get and idea and then spend the time to tweak to get close enough for my needs.

No, it's not a tube amp...but it has its place.

I'm a tube amp fanatic, and the only home practice rig I've owned that totally kicks ass is a Vox Valvetronix HEAD!!!!!!! Yes, the HEAD, not the cheeze ass little combos. Then, put it on a high quality cabinet.....probably the one you own already. That 12AX7 inside Valvetronix amps actually gives the amp a tube feel under the fingers, which Flextones DO NOT have......and yes, I've had 3 L6 amps and sold them all. With my AD60VTH/Bogner 2-12 cab, I can put my tube amps next to it, and clone their sound.

The best thing about the Vox's is the variable wattage selector on back, so you can tailor the amp to whatever volume level you need to be using.
Also, make sure you use the OD models in tandem with the amp models, even on clean tones. You need to use the OD models to add punch and sparkle to the tone. With the OD models off, the amp sounds like a Line 6.

Re: well i decided to get a flextone III

What you have to remember is that this is an amp modeler and treat it as such. Don't expect to plug into a Marshall patch and expect gain and saturation for days, it won't happen. I have an old pod pro that I run thru a bbe sonic max and into a carvin 100 watt tube power amp. I have a home made malmsteen strat going thru a 535q wah, yjm308, boss ns-2. It took me some time to get the theory of using analog with digital down but this thing kicks major league ass. If you don't like the line 6 distortion (and it is not all that great) that they give you with the amp, use your analog pedals and you won't be sorry. Remember that when you pull up an amp model, that is all you are getting is that amp model, it's up to you to color it your way. I have even heard that Seymour himself has played or does own one.

so whats my best bet for a small combo (bedroom player) i dont want a practice amp, i want killer metal tone and marshall creamy tones, i learned the lesson the hardway ,everybody said the half stack was too much! now i know .

Crate has the new valvebee out, get it. I heard about it awhile back and it sounds perfect for you.
