Well well, Gibson has lowered prices on its 2015 line...

I'd be really interested in seeing what the age demographics are of people who spend $2,500+ on a Gibson. I bet they're older, and I bet they aren't getting any younger. I think there will come a time when the market no longer consist of buyers who feel that those price points are worth accepting in order to own a Gibson, and so Gibson has to get going while the going is good.

But the logic doesnt hold water... as those people age... there are the current crop of young players hashing it out on an agile dreaming of a real gibson who in 20 years after a career and family will finally be able to buy one...

The only times gibson has really faltered is when they have fallen out of the public imagination, as long as the desire for the vintage designs hang on and famous players play them gibson will survive.

Gibson Les Pauls are iconic rock guitars, some would say the iconic rock guitar - 60+ years of history speaks for itself; and in that time they only completely fell out of favor in '61 just to come back in '68. As long as people want to play rock n' roll there will be those who want to plug an LP into a Marshall and let it rip!
