Welp, not impressed with rat clone

Re: Welp, not impressed with rat clone

Mosky Black Rat is the way to go, well made with the LM308 chip and they're only like less than 30 bucks but mine took 3 weeks in shipping from Asia.

Did you replace the bad resistor too so that it sounds like a rat?

Re: Welp, not impressed with rat clone

Let's see this board. We'll help you decide what really needs to go.

Then get this:

Re: Welp, not impressed with rat clone

I kicked the delay pedal in the fx loop off the board, not using it so much with these tones I'm going for in this setup
I will post a pic of what's left when I get home, long job at work

But FYI it's the on stage gpb2000 board, I think it's like 18 inches wide and like 5.5" or 6" tall

Board has
Planet waves pedal tuner
Boss blues driver
(Insert rat I will soon receive here)
Green Russian muff
Loop switcher (one control White Loop)

The loop switcher is great, one switch is bypass, other switch toggles the red and green loop. Red loop has the tuner and the bd-2 and rat, green loop switches to the big muff. So I can go from one of 2 different flavors of hairy cleans and crunch, to the big muff, with one switch

Re: Welp, not impressed with rat clone

That's before I kicked out the delay the blue ocean off, was going to anyways, little crowded, little messy

Re: Welp, not impressed with rat clone

As for changing a resistor no need. The pedal sounds fine.

It can be a bit noisy tho.

It's just that the guy in the video you linked had modded his mooer by swapping that resistor, which he said has a big impact on the tone control. He also said the mooer didn't sound like a rat until he did the mod.

Ive already given my opine. I have nothing to do with the other guy. Don't believe everything on the internet.
I have the Mosky Black Rat and it works fine & for $25 bucks i wouldn't expect miracles.
The filter knob on my Mosky works fine.

Pro Co rat prices are outrageous. The reissues don't even have the correct LM308 chip and they want $150 and up.
Rats from da 80's are way more and not worth the hype IMO.
1000's of options.
I had a Pro Co Rat reissue, the filter knob was useless and i couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

Whats in a name ? NOT MUCH.

Yeah the rat types get interesting mids, that's why I like them too, really colored sound.

Another type of OD/Dist stomp that gets interesting mids is a Treble Booster.

I use a Catalinbread Naga Viper.

Treble boosters are often overlooked and I think it's because of the misleading name. Those who haven't tried one assume it's going to make your sound trebly, while the boosting actually begins in the lower frequencies. I have a Colour Boost and I love what it does with a tube amp.

I also have two Lovepedals that stack classic Rangemaster boost into a germanium fuzzface circuit, with a balance control so you have a continuous range of blend between the two. Cool idea.

The colourbooster isn't considered a treble boost, is it?

Re: Welp, not impressed with rat clone

I have used a long time ago a rangemaster variant that had some voicing options and it was pretty cool!

Yes it is. Classic germanium circuit just like the original Rangemaster, but with the addition of a Colour knob that offers the option of three other shelf frequencies.

Re: Welp, not impressed with rat clone

weird...i have an eno myomorpha and i love it. a/b'ed it with my old rat2 and it sounded just like it. maybe i got a good one. then again i was never a big fan of my rat2 anyway...

Re: Welp, not impressed with rat clone

I've played some more with the Myomorpha but this time I used not the stock speaker on my rocker 15 combo but used my 68 custom Princeton Reverb cab and the Celestion g10 vintage. Much less fizz on top, but enough to sound bad to me at anything but full distortion settings which sound... Not bad. But the medium gain sounds just sound like not enough treble is being cut somewhere critical in the circuit and the filter knob isn't affecting it

It's not the worst thing ever for $29,
The $75 rat clone should show up Monday and I'll see how it goes
