Went back to Alnico II Pros in my Lester! Feels like home!!

Just put them back in after a stint with ceramics, 500t.
I really missed the tone of these. Thru my Marshall Jubilee it can't be beat.
I have always been back and forth when it comes to a bridge humbucker.
High vs. Med-Low output.
Anyone else find them selves back and forth as well?

That's why you should have a few LP's so you can have some of each. I can't make up my mind, so I've got low, mid, and high output bridge HB's in my LP's, plus a pair of Phat Cats. I grab the one I'm in the mood for.

I'm not sure about back and forth, but the Alnico Pro is one of my favorites...for sure!! The PG, Alnico Pro and the "59. Great set of pups. I love lots of the others as well...but these are the core of Seymour to me.

I've always loved A2's in SC's or in HB's. I bought a lefty Gibson Les Paul Premium Plus off of eBay sometime back, and the previous owner substituted a zebra pair of the SD Alnico Pro pups for the original Burstbuckers (got the BB's with the guitar though). I really love the SD Alnico Pro's, but like most guys here on the forum I just had to experiment and try out some Tim White Timbuckers, and a Tom Holmes matched HB pair on my other lefty Gibson Les Paul Premium Plus. I prefer Timbuckers over Tom Holmes, but again back to the subject, a good A2 HB pup like the SD Alnico Pro reminds me of a vintage A5 Gibson PAF that has lost a little magnetism over the years where the overall tonal response smoothes out ever so sweetly. The slightly degaussed PAF still retains all the classic PAF tonal qualities, but w/o the edginess or brittleness noted when the PAF was first wound.

I constantly waffle on bridge pickups. High output is nice and smooth, but loses the top end openess and bite. Mid/low is nice open, but can be a little raw and clangy. In my LP, the APH is probably the best Duncan I tried of all the low output stuff.

My SG has taken me through tons of hybrids, low mid and high output stuff. I just finally tried an APH in it, and while it sounded really chewy and cool, it lost out to the old 490R with an A4 in it. That guitar just seems to want this combo. Weird, but what do you do?

But I like the OP, and constantly changing to and from APHs and other lower output stuff. What's the definition of insanity again?
