Yes, Gibson/Fender guitars used audio pots for both volume and tone, however there are different audio tapers (10%, 30%, etc), and the vintage pots had a smoother taper than the stock CTS, etc. guitar pots that are around these days. That's why there are a bunch of "custom taper" pots being sold now, that attempt to replicate the smooth transition in taper of the vintage audio guitar pots.
