WFD BRIDGE HELLBUCKER Project...

Re: WFD BRIDGE HELLBUCKER Project...

i can hear another big forum project on the horizon hehe

is this a full size humbucker? or a SC rail?

Re: WFD BRIDGE HELLBUCKER Project...

It could be one massive pickup, with enough coils to stretch from the bridge to the neck, all run in series!

Ok, now it's getting silly. :)

Nigel: ...One louder.
Marty: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
[pause]
Nigel: These go to eleven.

Re: WFD BRIDGE HELLBUCKER Project...

don't even look at it!

Re: WFD BRIDGE HELLBUCKER Project...

Talk to the custom shop and see what they can do. That would be my best advice. You're specs are probably going to be tough for them to match precisely. I think you're going to have to compromise a bit on the hellbucker. That's the true art of making pickups anyway is compromising a little to get what you are really after. Most pickup designers like SD and others out there have to make compromises to make their pickups sound a certain way. You can get the sound and the pickup you really want, but you will have to be flexible in your stats to get the tone you are after. What I would start off with is to tell them what you want it to sound like via descriptions of other pickups, and then tell them what magnet you want them to use. Leave the other stuff up to them. Alnico II output is quite a bit lower than Ceramic. Look on the tone chart and see the difference between the Custom Custom and the Duncan Custom. That's the perceived difference in output between the A2 and Ceramic magnets with the same coils. Alnico II is also rounder and smoother than the other magnets out there too. In order to achieve the EQ you seek using an A2 magnet, you're probably going to have to have a coil that winds to much less than 22K resistance. Probably something closer to 10k or less. The output would be on par with the Pearly Gates. If you decided to go with a ceramic magnet or an A5, this would change everything and your goals would be more readily achievable with those specs. You might still have to come down on the resistance spec to achieve the EQ you want. The resistance spec is just a number anyway and won't matter to your amp one single bit.

Re: WFD BRIDGE HELLBUCKER Project...

JP, I wouldnt worry so mush about what specs you want it to have. Worry about the tone. Tell MJ what you are looking for in tone and let her decide what to do with it. She is the expert.

Re: WFD BRIDGE HELLBUCKER Project...

yeah, thats what i was about to say, ahahahaha
