Someone recommended their version of the Vintage 30 to me a while back. I was looking at some of their other offerings and for the price I was thinking about trying some different models out. Can anyone vouch for them or tell me about their experience with them? www.warehousespeakers.com

Hi. I recently purchased the 'WGS' 12" 'British Lead' 80w copy of the Celestion 'Classic Lead 80' speaker and am thoroughly impressed and satisfied with it! There is alot of positive feedback for the 'WGS' speakers on 'The Gear Page' [that`s where i learned about them] esp. for their version of the 'Vintage 30' speaker so you might want to see what they`re saying there. I am very happy with my 'WGS" speaker.

Re: WGS Speakers

Those speakers were good deals when they were $29 a pop but now, no way...the thing that bugs me the most is a buddy of mine that does work on amps bought quite a few of them when they were first popping up, he was amazed at the $29 price tag but he told me that he's gotten more than just a few that were DOA out of the box...not cool.

Perhaps the high dud rate was a result of a manufacturing flaw that was since fixed?

Re: WGS Speakers

i have a pair of the green berets in my bogner 2x12 cab. i have had them for a few months and they are working great. i like them so much i have thought about getting a few different models to try.

Re: WGS Speakers

Don't think so...in fact the first several batches he got were all fine but as the price started going up the quality started dropping...

That seems inversely proportional to what you would expect. You'd think quality wise they should rival Celestions for less dough if the price continues to go up. I was interested in these when they were cheaper and even recently (when I first heard about them) they were about $45 a piece. Now they are $65 and word is they are STILL going up in price. All this and I am guessing these aren't USA components in these WGS speakers...

Why did you switch from the stock Bogner speakers? Aren't they V30's in the 2x12?

yeah it came with vintage 30's. i just never cared for them. i tried them in a marshall 4x12 and in the bogner 2x12. but i never liked them.

Re: WGS Speakers

I tried the British Leads with the Veteran 30s, but I like the Green Berets with the V30s better. I actually got mine under the cheapo prices so I'm happy as hell. My cab sounds positively killer.

Re: WGS Speakers

I have a Vet 30 in my Prosonic Combo. I tried a Vin 30, 75,and a Eminence that came out of a Genz Benz G-Flex in the amp before I dropped the Vet 30 in. IMO the Vet 30 killed um all tone wise in this amp. To heck with the price I think head to head the WGS Vet 30 is a better sounding speaker than a Celestian Vin 30!! I would rather have the Vet 30 even if they were at the same price for the TONE!
I found the Vet 30 to be fuller, smoother, bigger and sweeter sounding than the Vin 30 in particular. I also thought the WGS was much better ballanced overall.
Here are some clips using my Prosonic live with the Vet 30 unmiced in a 1000 seat Church. This is true improv on the fly spontanious stuff so bear with the beginings as we were finding the groove. The first clip is crunched the second both cleans and crunch. I recorded this with my Mini Disc Wallkman and a pair of condensor mics set up at the rear of the hall. I have gotten the best tones with the Prosonic converted to a 1/12 combo and using the Vet 30 that I have ever gotten out of any combo I have ever owned!
For my part I love the Vet 30's!

Re: WGS Speakers

cant say enough great things about my pair...

wish i had bought a few more at $30 a pop.

Yeah, I have a v30 that I love, wanted to get a couple of the others to mix and match. But now they are double the price. I should have bought all 3 I wanted to try at first, but I wanted to get one and try it and then get the others later. Stupid me........

Re: WGS Speakers

I bought the Green Beret and the Reaper for my PV Classic 50 212 and the GB was exceptional from the git go but the Reaper was way too bassy and boomy, so I exchanged it for a Veteran 30 and I haven't looked back. Sounds great on my OD channel and that was pretty much usless with the stock speakers. I put away my Box of Rock cause now my amp does the marshally thing on its own!

I also learned of WGS from "The Gear Page" and it's my understanding that they're made in the old Celestion plant and they basically are Celestions with some of the common complaints fixed, like the upper mid spike on the V30, and without the "Brand name" price tag (someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's just what I remember reading over there)

All I know for sure is they worked out great for me and costomer service is great over there, too. I corresponded with David a few times during the exhange and he was very helpful. It was his recommendation on the V30 when the Reaper didn't work out and he was dead on.

Re: WGS Speakers

On a side note they've just released their version of the Alnico Gold and while not cheap its still less then the celestion from what I gather and could be better.

Weird... judging by all the positive reviews I've read here and elsewhere, maybe it could have been a few cases of bad luck?

They're still slightly less than Celestions and may be of similar quality, so I might as well give them a shot. I was considering the Retro 30, as their description of "brighter and more articulate version of the WGS Veteran 30... boasts deeper and tighter bottom end. This speaker is extremely versatile and comes alive on the dirty channel" is EXACTLY what I wanted to hear.

I think I'll hawk the Hellatones 60s I have and give those Retro 30s a shot. They sounded good with my Legacy but I don't really think they're the right choise for me anymore, considering my stylistic change PLUS using a new amp.

Re: WGS Speakers

Merry Christmas!!! I picked up a Marshall 3203 and am saving for a Mesa Electradyne (used), also have my Bogner Shiva, PWE Event Horizon and Mesa Dual Rec. Hey, still have my Port City with Celestion G12K-100s and Bogner 212 with V30s! I want to order some new WGS ASAP after the holiday for my Splawn 412.

These days, I try to stick to WGS when buying new although I still have plenty of Celestions! They seem warmer out of the box and fatter/thicker. I love the Retro\ET65, the Reaper/Green Beret and Invader/Reaper50. Also Reaper 50/Retro30.

My music is classic rock to 90s hard rock and grunge and modern alternative rock.

Re: WGS Speakers

A friend of mine let me use one of his Burris 1x12s with a WGS speaker in it. I knew the name, but nothing really about the company WGS when I played it. I was blown away by how great my amp sounded through it.
