WGS Speakers

Re: WGS Speakers

A friend of mine let me use one of his Burris 1x12s with a WGS speaker in it. I knew the name, but nothing really about the company WGS when I played it. I was blown away by how great my amp sounded through it.

I was jamming onstage with a guy a few months ago who had a pair of WGS speakers in his vintage Fender Pro Reverb. He did use pedals but it was a great sounding Pro Reverb. I was very impressed. Wish I knew what model WGS speakers they were.

I also wish you guys who love them and own them would mention the model WGS speakers you actually own. :cool2:

Hi Lew,

I'm using the Green Berets (Greenback clones) in my Crate Vintage Club. They really are awesome once they're broken in. My friend, Pete, is using Veteran 30's in his JCM800 combo. Also a great sounding speaker. IMO, they sound as good as Celestions. And, for the price you can't beat 'em.

Happy Holidays!

Thanks! I'm working on a new amp design with Bruce and I'm considering using WGS speakers...only they've gotten a little expensive. Happy Holidays to you Jeff!

I haven't checked their prices recently, but they still have to be cheaper than Eminence or Celestion. Good luck with the amp design!

Thanks! It's actually been completed and it'll be similar to my heavily modified Princeton Reverb.

Vox, Marshall and Fender with spring reverb and about 25 watts. One 12" speaker. I use an old Celestion G12 alnico in mine and have not found an affordable substitute.

That makes sense. The alnico's are expensive. I think the WGS ones are over $200 a piece.

Re: WGS Speakers

I'm running a Vet 30 in my 1/12 Blackstar cab and a Retro 30 in my JCM 900 MK III Dual Master 1/12 combo.
Vet IMO is better most times in an open back combo as it is a little smoother and darker and the brighter Retro in a closed back. I am running the Retro in the Marshall many time on the 1/12 with the Vet but may swap the 2 and run the vet again in the combo.
When I'm running the Marshall most of the time I doing modern worship stuff and looking for a bright clear tone so that's why I have left the Retro in the combo for now. The Retros KILL at high gain in a closed back cab big time!
Together the Retro and Vet sound amazing and a 2/12 or 4/12 with that pairing would be massive sounding. I have several Celestians but after picking up the WGS's they are all now sitting in a box and the WGS's are in the rigs I'm playing out. Bottom line I own Eminences Celestians and WGS's. I prefer the way the WGS stuff sounds in my amps.

Holy crap I started this thread a little over 4 years ago...

Just an FYI I've been using a 4x12 with Eminence Man-O-Wars and Governors since... about early 2010 or so and it's a superb combination.
