Yeah, that is a goodie! Have you heard him play "Panama"? Or when he plays various VH parts on a clip where he's playing a 5150 thru a Marshall bottom? I don't know who he is, but that guy is a MONSTER player. It's not so much that he has the VH thing down, but the skill in his playing is what blows me away! Serious chops, for sure!!

Yep got most of his stuff on the computer, his playing is highly enjoyable.
And I love that he just uses run of the mill stuff, and sounds great because he is very good at what he does!
I hear nothing but people that whines over the 5150 amps, and here VHoholic shows up and just sounds great!:D
Hehe I guess he would sound awesome through a Rage158 too;)

That is great. I love that style of guitar playing. I am writing a tune that is kinda similar. It is what I think a EVH satch/vai style instrumental piece would have sounded like circa 1980-82. I have a little done but I have been stumped for a while. maybe i'll upload what I have and see if you'all have any ideas....

I really enjoy his work! I wonder how many hours he's spent nailing those licks. It's impressive in the same way a classical pianoist plays Bethoven, Bach, Mozart etc. Shows great disipline and loads of hard work.

That clip is kinda like how Led Zepplin woulda sounded if EVH joined up in the 70's. I can just see the scenario. A young Ed rocking up to an audition after Jimmy Page's death (instead of bonham) and Ed leaves VH due to the LSD of DLR. There's Robert Plant sitting there saying 'show us what you've got'. The band kicks into the 'Immigrant song' and off goes Ed........

That's his 5150, no doubt about it. I must admit, one of the reasons i'm an owner of a 5150 is due to VHolholic's clips. I asked him what effects, guitar, etc he was using, he told me and I was sold. I've had quite a few amps with various od/distortion pedals in my 15 years of playing and none of them has given me the lead sound I was after.

Listen to the start of that clip and you can hear how few times he's actually picking the notes and the incredible tone and sustain he's getting. Of course VHolhoic's playing shows he has lots of strength in his hands and superb technique but the 5150 amp gives you that wonderful, smooth singing sustain on your lead playing. I love the way you can dig in on the string, add as much vibrato as you like and the tone just keeps singing.

The clips of him playing the plexi still show his wonderful technique and they aren't the same quality of his 5150 work, but I hear a harsh, grainy sound in the plexi that doesn't 'do it' for me.

I know what you mean how some guys rag on the 5150. They only do so because it's fashionable to say 'Peavey suck'. It probably goes back to the day when peavey made garbage amps.

Yeah he used a 5150 combo, I think he used it with a 4x12 greenback equipped cab? and yes the Plexi is not for everyone(I love it tons), anyways he used it with one tube in a few of his never clips..great sound!!

I really like how he makes the style sound like his own...not just a bunch of EVH licks strung together.

Monster player with tasty phrasing...wonder if he ever posts original tunes?

That blues jam shows he can improvise with the best of em'. But to be honest, I can hear that sort of playing pretty much anywhere.

I don't know about you guys, But since VH's Balance, I haven't heard anything by Ed that I consider 'good'. I love listening to VHoholic's interpretation of Van halen!!!!!!

His recording qualtiy is excellent. It's like listening to remasters of VH's best stuff.

I found an old thread (I know you contributed to Rid), that some guy was giving him a hard time for coping Ed's tone. I feel for the VHoholic, especially when he puts in lots of work for free, graciously allows us to listen and gets flamed by a troll. I don't blame him for not posting his stuff here anymore.

Did that guy ever end up posting a clip of his chops and backing up his statement that he found VH's stuff easy to play???

C'mon VHoholic, give those VH junkies among us a taste of your sweet, sweet playing.

Hey guys, thanks for all the kind words. I appreciate it. Rid, thanks for posting my clip man! I gotta get off my lazy ass and post something new one of these days..LOL. That guy didn't scare me away at all. I understood where he was coming from but for some reason he just didn't get that i was doing all this for fun. Not sure what the deal was with him. With summer here i've just been doing alot of camping and outdoor stuff. Hey, now that i think of it, did he ever post any of his original material? I forgot all about that, anyone hear any of it if he did?

ah dont sweat that guy, hes probabley some 90's nine inch nail lovin cheesedik. anyway post some more. most everyone loves those vh tunes :beerchug:
