What about these guys .....

Re: What about these guys .....

Last time I saw the Zep tribute band Zoso, the guitar player was using them and he sounded pretty good. I would say his tone was a bit thicker than Page's, but I don't know what he was using in the way of pedals either. I would rock them though, were noise not an issue.

That's exactly what I thought of, too. That amp sounded great. That's the only experience I have with one of them, though.

Re: What about these guys .....

Geronimo amps is exactly what I would purchase if I didn't want to search out an old Plexi and then restore it.

Geronimo kinda makes that process futile, unless you just must have "Marshall" on the front.

Re: What about these guys .....

I did a lot of research on them, reviews, sound clips, descriptions etc when I was looking at what amp to get, and they are NOT clones. Maybe some of the newer ones are, but most of them arent clones. They looks much nicer now with the matching gold knobs and the cooler looking script logo than the black chicken head knobs and block logo. You are correct that they do sound thicker and creamier than your traditional Plexi head. Thats one of the advantages, (well I should say differences) of them, smoother solo tone. Now, with that said, they have a fatter, richer clean tone also compared to the clean tones of some plexis before they hit break-up, which sounds a little on the thin side (still some of the best cleans you can find, but nothing compared to a good tweed or blackface or brownface). A good choice if you want those two updates on a classic Marshall, still very Marshallish, and they have the Hendrix one with the KT66s that doesnt cost 10 grand like the Marsall Hendrix stack does.

Thanks for the reviews guys, but, what's their "sourced Heyboer transformer?"
