What amp could this be ?

Re: What amp could this be ?

I read President too. I bet the caps are all shot and the amp is one foot out of the grave as stands.

If you want to learn amp electronics it might be a fun investment.

Re: What amp could this be ?

It's possible you have a rare "Velvetone President", made by a long-expired Canadian company called Kitchener Electronics. They also made amps under the brand name Kiel (KItchener ELectronics).

Dunno what it could be worth, but it might be a cool-sounding amp once you get it up and running again.

Thanks for the info !
I am lookinginto the brand right now !

So far, "President amp"-search gave me nothing.

Re: What amp could this be ?

Not enough valves to be a Gibson GA-20. On the other hand, the GA-14 and later versions of Gibson GA-6 match the valve layout in your discovery.

IMO, the electronic design does seem to owe quite a lot to early Fender Deluxe Amps.

What is the writing on the capacitor nearest the AC power lead? It looks like "HUNTS Capacitors, Made In England" then, a part number. Is this correct?

The voltage selector pin base suggests an export model from wherever it originated.

P. S. - Googling "President guitar amplifier" brought up Velvetone and some Canadian-built Hawaiian guitar amps a la Magnatone.

Re: What amp could this be ?

The hyperlink worked when I tried it.

Looks as if you have identified the manufacturer. Just need to pin down the exact model/variant. Obviously, your discovery has no reverb spring tray, no reverb drive/capture circuitry and no reverb level pot.

BTW, thanks for the close up photograph of the capacitor. I confess that I am none the wiser but that the use of parts imported from England does fit with Canadian manufacture.

Here is a pic of a Standel amp. Just thought I'd post it. It is a possibility that it could be an earlier model?

canadian made by KIEL, (KItchener ELectronics), 2x6L6, 30 watts, 1x12", reverb tank, tremolo, 2 channel, footswitch for rev&trem, cool sound, top of the line in its day. never seen another, can't find one on the net. very clean, it all works, great shape. slight tear in grill.
