What amp pt1000.......

Cat In The Hatministrator
For those of you who have read my thread on Rid's generosity will know that I'm pondering an amp change.
I'll be retaining all of the pedals in my sig, and looking to add a delay, but my question is, what amp am I looking for.
I play mostly classic type rock, nothing extremely high gain. I'm after a 30-50w valve amp, single channel, fx loop and reverb. That's it!
Any thoughts?

:Edit: Of course it has to sound killer and take my pedals well!!

15-38 watts, 2 inputs, Spring reverb, Parallel loop with mix control
I did some looking and that's all I could find that fit all the requirements. Lots of amps with 2 channels or with no reverb, etc, etc. I have absolutely no experience with that amp, mind you. I think someone here has one... Hot_Grits maybe.

Re: What amp pt1000.......

Cheers, I'll have a look. It doesn't have to just be single ch, although the drive ch might not get used often, but the reverb and loop are pretty much must haves.

Re: What amp pt1000.......

I must admit I quite fancy a Rockerverb, but even with selling my TSL, I won't raise enough funds. Jeff, are the Goldtone similar to the Trace Velocette (I think thats right)?

Re: What amp pt1000.......

I like the look of the Soldano, but the only one I've seen for sale over here was going for £999. Out of my price range unfortunately

Re: What amp pt1000.......

The Fender Blues Deluxe is 2 channel, but no one's forcing you to use them both. Great cleans, and handles pedals very well.

If you can live without the effects loop and reverb (I don't care for spring reverb anyway), I highly recommend a Dr Z Route 66. Perfect single channel amp for hitting with pedals. Clean is gorgeous, and it loves distortion and overdrive pedals.

Re: What amp pt1000.......

IDK for a fact , but I've heard the Goldtones are indeed a TE amp.

Keep in mind something:

The PlexiTone sounds MUCH better when it's matched with a british voiced amp vs. an american voiced amp....go for something Vox or Marshall vs. Fendery.

I used mine on the Fender channel of my Rivera...however the Rivera had EL34s and could do a remarkable Bluesbreaker type thing by kicking in the ninjaboost and some tweaking..that is how I had it setup.

when I ran the plexitone in the Blackface mode, or with a more authentic Bassman type sound, it did not sound as good. The mids are never right.

Rid has recommended this as well in the past and runs them through british voiced amps...hi-watts, marshalls etc.

Re: What amp pt1000.......

I'd like an Orange, but out of my price range unfortunately. Same for new Hi-Watts (same for a lot of the old!). Vox might be an idea, and maybe a Bluesbreaker type Marshall.

Re: What amp pt1000.......

Quite honestly Steve..if you love the sound you are getting now...here's a hint based on thousands and thousands of dollars thrown down the tubes by yours truly...

play it through the TSL :)

Unless you absolutely need something smaller/lighter/ less wattage, keep your Marshall.

You may look into a DSL40 too or an old 800 series 1x12 combo since they are cheaper over on your side of the pond.

At the mo it'll remain that way. I'm really thinking out loud, and we all know where that can end up once you've been on here! I've got a couple of ideas on tweaking my TSL, so that might make a difference.

Re: What amp pt1000.......

BTW ,a LANey 50 watt GL would be great.650 euros new here ,and a good sound ,with a nice FXloop.MAybe even you don't need to sell anything for that.At least not your TSL!

Re: What amp pt1000.......

Unfortunately, with 4 kids, disposable cash to reduce GAS is at a premium! It'd be nice to get something to compliment my current setup.

Re: What amp pt1000.......

Definitely keep your eyes on Gibson Goldtones and Trace Elliot Velocettes.
They have a tight sounding cab, Celestion Vin 30, all tube, boost function that turns on an extra 12AX7, bright switch, tube driven spring reverb equal to Fender, and series/parallel FX loop. Almost no other British amp gives you those features.

I totally scored on the Goldtone 30RVS 2-12 combo I got for $540. I doubled my money that day, but the good part is that I love the amp and am keeping it for good. There's a Trace Elliot Speed Twin head on Ebay right now, but I"ll probably pass on it......a bargain at $700.

I think of Goldtones/TE's as the best mix of Marshall and Vox you can buy, with all those features. Most boutique versions sound about the same, but they don't have reverb, boost, or FX loop.
