What amp?

Re: What amp?

jcm800 are one channel, no footswitchable gain stages, and not particularly high gain amps (unless you get it modded for more gain), though they are amazing amps when used to thier full potencial, they arent going to be the greatest amps ever on thier own.

i have a gain modded jcm800 and i still use a clean boost pedal when im playing lead, though theres more than enough gain for rhythm.

if you can get thier full potencial thier really worth it, but its easier said than done if you want to play high gain metal. + not all of them have effects loops, mine doesnt.

no disrespect meant...but you need to learn about the differing 800's

The JCM800 2210's are two channel, with efx loop and were offered from 1982 to 1989...... gain on these is substantially higher than the 2203/4's and were/are sometimes considered to be the "ultimate Marshall"...although even these can be modded to an extent that would leave even $4k amps "in the dust"......it's what I do for living...!

Re: What amp?

well i have limited experience, i have only tried the zakk wylde model, the reissue and my own jcm800, and they are very good sounding amps but simplistic and not very high gain, i know mine doesnt have much preamp gain untill i switch the gain boost on, im still young, still learning and i havent tried those models of the jcm800 that you mention, which makes me curious, il have to try one myself.

i still love my 5150 though for all out power, gain and sound it rocks as one of the best amps in the world, without a doubt. the jcm800 also is an amazing amp, but lacks versitality (mine does) with one channel and no effects loop.

Re: What amp?

For And justice type sounds...that would dictate some serious metal tone. The Peavey Triple X is one of the best amps out there for that. I played the Triple X, Uberschall, and Dual Recto for hours at a time the same day and went with the Triple X (and it wasn't a cash issue), though I did really like the Uberschall also. The Triple X has a very nice effects loop, three channels etc. but the best part is that the two hi gain channels do sound uniquely different, the crunch channel is amazing. I know I have seen a lot of Triple Xs go for $550 to $700 used. I bought mine new (the 212) for $750. Got a good price due to the fact that the guys at the store dropped some Celestion V30s in it to see what it did. I retubed it with JJ E34Ls and JJs in the preamp. I would happily put next to any "high end" amp out there. Give one a try somewhere and see what you think, careful when you do though - it has "real/active" tone controls (not some passive tone curving controls) So if you do the super scoop it will sound awful, very subtle adjustments yield larger tonal changes.
