What are some good (american) guitar companies....

Re: What are some good (american) guitar companies....

As I look more and more on this website, I want a custom model in the mosrite shape more and more. :smack:

I'd be willing to save up 1400 for one of these babies.

Big_Black: You bought one of these didn't you? How was the experience? Nice guy? Good guitar? I assume so as you seem to have a very high opinion of aluminum. lol

My aluminum-necked was built by Greg Bailey. Greg does not really support a "line" of guitars, he usually jest makes bolt-on necks and Travis Bean replacement parts (near impossible to get otherwise). As far as in know he does not make bodies. I don't like Greg's designs as much as I like Kevin's. I bought from Greg because I love the Travis Bean Standard style (my guitar is essentially a TB reproduction), and the Electrical are all 25.5" scale. My TB is a more comfortable 24.75" The body of my guitar is a 30 year old TB original, Greg fabricated the neck, the bridge, the pickguard and the control cover....basically everything but the body.

From what I know, Kevin offers great customer service. He has re-wound pickups, he's always available for questions, etc. I beleive he starts working with half of the money down, the rest due upon completion of the work or sooner. He will also work with whatever wiring, customizations you can dream up (at additional cost no doubt).

I think this is guitar illustrates how "out there" Kevin is willing to go.

The body started its life as a Gibson Ripper bass. Kevin routed the back to accept one of his necks. It's an 8 string baritone with a Wonderbar trem and I don't even know what kind of pickups. Kevin has said he can route nearly any guitar body to accept one of his necks.

Give him a call or drop him an email. He's a really nice guy and will answer any questions you have.

That ripper bass is pretty sweet. Thanks for the info.

I forgot the Billy Bo Jupiter. That one was pretty sweet. It had some serious mojo.

Re: What are some good (american) guitar companies....

Everyone that I have found that has dealt with Kevin said he was great to deal with, and I am gassing over an EGC pretty bad. He has a lot of pictures on his myspace. And Big_Black that RD Bass is one of my favourites too.

+1 one on everything here.

I just need to find a cool body. Or have him make me a mosrite copy.

Big_Black - do you have clips or know where there are some?

Re: What are some good (american) guitar companies....

I've never owned one of these, but they sure have a nice clean design, and they come with Duncans: Campbell American Guitars

I have a Campbell American Precix and it just plain smokes. Looked at LOTS of guitars with an fairly open budget and found the Precix to be a top performer in both sound and playability. Craftmanship is tops with no frills - real players guitars - great woods used. Other models which are nice are UK1 and Transitone. My Precix has a nice compact body (almost a cross between an SG and a Strat) a short headstock and a fast neck - it has SD Phat Cat P90's which I am thinking of swapping out for some Seth Lovers. See Nov 2007 Guitar Player Review of several Campbell guitars for their seal of approval.

Ernie Ball and Brian Moore make some unique but great designs too.
