What are some good dimarzios?

Other than the super distortion, I have had no other dimarzios. I'm thinking about replacing a super d in one of my epiphone sg's. What are some I should consider? I play 70s-80s rock to metal. Sabbath, zeppelin, AcDc,Maiden stuff like that. Thanks!

Metal for life!!

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

Probably a PAF 36th set for that using Dimarzios. A PAF clone (needed for Zeppilin and AC/DC) but that handles gain.

Another possibility might be the Air Zone bridge and Air Classic neck.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

The Tone Zone is the best bridge humbucker I've ever used. It's got a wonderful singing quality, lots of mids, and isn't shrill when you get high up on the neck. I run it just connected to the volume knob in a maple neck alder strat, and it works great for rock, hard rock, and classic metal. Sounds nice split too . . .

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

Yeah, the Tone Zone is a very good pickup. I had the X2N in one and liked it for metal, but was SOOO powerful that it didn't work for much else. I used the PAF pro for a while and liked it, as well as the Fred.

I can make the Tone Zone shrill and icepicky. Wanna hear? Too bad I don't have quality recorders, though.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

They actually have a bunch of cool pickups in their lineup. Latey ive been diggin the gravity storm set. Other cool ones include the Steves special, Norton, Air Norton, the breeds.

If i was doing an 80's metal guitar with dimarzios I would go with a breed bridge and an air norton neck.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

The Crunchlab is my favorite Dimarzio I've tried. I liked it better than the Evolution, I found I could control the CL better and it responds to my technique in a more natural manner. I'd say it's in my top three favorite pickups after the Duncan Distortion and before the Alternative 8.

Super distortion, 2, 3, fred, paf, x2n megadrive. Air norton, tone zone. Fast tracks. hs series. um............

I like them all.

this man speaks the truth.

the gravity storms are amazing.

the Evo2 sounds great in mahogany, as well, and it should work well for what you're playing.

I have an evo2 and gravity storm neck model in a parker nitefly that's been very difficult to fit with pickups. now I love it, and I've been through a lot of pickups in that guitar.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

A good option for all those styles could be the PAF Pro. Very nice pickup. And same for the neck.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

Another Tone Zone fan here. It's really good for smoothing out a guitar that's kind of bright without getting muddy or dark. I pair mine with an Air Norton in the neck.

The only DiMarzio I've tried but haven't liked very much is the Steve's Special. But I've owned Evolutions, Air Zone, Norton, Fred, Crunch Lab, PAF Pro, and even the Virtual Vintage stuff and I've been able to make it all work. The FRED and CL are among my favorites, though.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

I just got my first Dimarzio - a Bluesbucker. It was replacing a Pearly Gates in the bridge, and the change in EQ wasn't too drastic. I need more time to play it, but the dynamics do feel different, and I have noticed a sizable increase in sustain. It may stay a while.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

I love my DiMarzios! I have an alder guitar with a Liquifire in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck. I also have a mahogany(maple through-neck) with an Air Zone in the bridge and an Air Classic in the neck.

The Liquifire is not designed for the bridge, but it is absolutely amazing in every guitar I've tried it in the bridge. The Air Norton is one of my favourite neck pickups. Just dripping with tone. The Air Zone for the bridge is also fantastic.

I find the Air Classic a little bright for my taste, but it is a great sounding pickup. If you're going for that type of sound(I think Seth Lovers are pretty comparable), it's one you should not overlook.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

The defunct vhpaf was one of my favorite bridge pickups in my green strat. It was standard spaced and double cream (strat is green with white pickguard) otherwise it would have stayed.

I like the feel of dimarzio pickups for certain kinds of playing - they don't have the immediacy of some other pickups which is excellent for soloing and the like.

One would be hard pressed to find a more musical sounding humbucker anywhere or from anybody.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

My Jackson soloist (all mahogany) has an Air Zone and Air Norton and they are awesome through my 800. Better than the Crunch Lab and Liquifire in my JP6.

Re: What are some good dimarzios?

I love the Super 2 / Super Distortion set, great thick, natural sound and very cool in parallell. I played with the 36th PAF in the neck of a LP too and was very cool, it smoked the BBPro that was before in every sense. Both the Super2 and 36th are great, defined neck pickups that don't seem to get muddy at all.
