What are the best pedalboard cables? (I hate George Ls)

Hi Guys.

I have my pedalboard wired with George L's cables and they're just unreliable. I don't trust them. The caps always get unscrewed and when you screw them back in tighter, they cut through the cable, so I end up cutting off more and more of the cable each time.... Its a pain in the butt.

Does anyone know any cables that come in a set length that also are low capacitants cables? What do you guys use to wire your pedalboards up?

Thanks!!!

Uh, the best IMO are GeorgeL's, I never had a single problem with them. Just checking (hate to sound rude), but you realize the caps are supposed to cut into the shielding right? I never experienced the caps coming unscrewed or anything, even when my board was being transported regularly.

Oh they're supposed to cut the shielding?? Whaaaaaat!!!

I am an idiot then.... I guess it kinda makes sense because the cable can't back out, once the cap has cut into it. But yeah, the caps get unscrewed after a while. I just have to check if they got loose before a gig, because it sucks if you got a bad connection all of a sudden.

Check out Lava Cable. I really liked the Klotz La Grange jumpers. Fair warning - They are expensive!

lol I'd never buy something that obviously crappy. But a decent $5-$10 cable will do fine. Haven't found one yet though.

i hated my george l's also...WAY over rated IMO. just because an anal famous guy uses them does not mean they are the best LOL. i replaced mine with custom SOLDERED cables i made using pro co wire and G&H right angle cable ends...SOLDERED (can you tell i stress that point LOL) . i have NO noise issues now. i had some hum before even after re-wiring my board with george l's 3 times but the slight hum would never go away since the metal touching wire for the ground is not as good as a proper soldered ground. so i say just order some cable and some ends and make your own custom ones (with SOLDER) to the size you want and call it a day and never worry about them again.

Mike's right. The G&H ends are the way to go. That's what I had on the Klotz cable and never had any issues.

Yeah, that's how they ground I believe, part of the solderless connection. Once again I never had any problems with them being noisy or just not working.

How about a pack of 6 for $10? :)

Cheap? Hosa colored patch cables.

Things you have to know about George L's......The cable needs to be cut with a carpet knife.....a straight blunt cut. Shove the cable as deep into the plug as possible, then screw the cap in tight. You can also buy rubber shields that go over the angled plugs, so they're resistant to coming loose. When I first bought them, I tried stripping the ends before feeding them in....big mistake. Customer Service at George L's told me to cut the cable cleanly with a carpet knife over a wood block.

Besides George L's, the best bet is Pro Co angled 6" cables.

No issues with my GL's, love 'em. A drop of blue LockTite will keep the angle caps from coming off, but mine never has.

HOSA

I use the Metal Headshell ones because you can line the pedal up real close and not have to worry about the cable being too thick or the end being too clunky:

But these are good too (I have one):

Best patch cables I've ever owned. Good sound quality, easy to manage, and an incredible bang for the buck.

I owned some George L's but they were too much trouble. I move my pedalboard order around a lot and having to cut new cable lengths each time became a bit of a hassle. It was more of a chore than anything...they did sound great though...

I have a whole bunch that I made with some Mogami (I think it was Mogami anyway...could be Beldon) wire & Switchcraft plugs.

The only readymade deals I have left these days are some Monsters that I snagged the last time I brought some dead 21 foot cables back to Guitarget for the exchange. They work ok I guess...

I picked them up mostly because I didn't have too many dual right angle cables around. I doubt I'd buy them outright, but since I got them on the exchange plan (and they gave me the 21's anyway! LOL) they're decent enough...just stupidly overpriced for what they are.
