Re: What are the best power tubes for metal ?

I think JJ power tubes are great for metal. I've had a set of E34L's in my Shiva running at 80-85% plate dissipation with no issues.

Re: What are the best power tubes for metal ?

EL34s/Marshalls for me. Has anyone tried the new Groove Tubes GT-6CA7-GE EL34? I have tried the GT "Mullard" 12AX7 reissues and I was really impressed. If these new EL34s are as good I'll be trying them in my Marshall soon.

Cheers,

CJ

Yes those JJEL34s or ls seem worth to try , but does anybody had experience with those Electro Harmonix 6CA7 , kind of a EL 34 that bend towards the 6L6 , it could be an excellent compromise ?

Yeah, I like those too. I have a set in a JCM 800.

So i understood that you have experienced both JJ EL34L and the Electro Harmonix 6CA7 , could you compare them ?
thanks

Re: What are the best power tubes for metal ?

I just got a new tube amp so I'm interested in this topic all of a sudden =)

here's question for you..it's about biasing...I have 6L6's in my AT-100...if I wanted to put EL34's or whatever in there, what would be involved? could I do it myself? I'm not sure what biasing is but I've heard about it in reference to tube amps

I love the JJ E34L's as well, although I looked at the 6CA7's and Kt77's closely before choosing them.

Re: What are the best power tubes for metal ?

I'm using a JCM 800 copy amp with EL34's. Also, this belongs in the amplifier central.

Re: What are the best power tubes for metal ?

This is a good question. I have been using only 6L6's, and my bandmates only use amps with 6L6 too and we haven't thought about changing power tubes. But since next month we're going to record our first EP maybe is a good idea to get a notion of what different power tubes do.

Could someone post a demo of the same amp (roughly the same playing) with different tubes?

I would be interested in seeing/hearing that!
