G12H30s are very balanced speakers. They have a very even frequency response and a tight bottom (people generally like the tight lowend and mix them with V30s for some pretty big tone). I have one in my Crate V32 Palomino and it's a pretty sweet speaker.
If you're going for more of a vintage rock tone and not Mesa-ish, you may really like the Greenbacks. The Greenbacks are a warm speaker that has a slightly loose lowend (which may or may not suit your taste). Hughes & Kettner's Triamp cabs are usually loaded with these and I think they match the amp well. They have a little bit of the mid-highs thing going on with a nice presence, but they don't have quite the topend snap that V30s have.
You'll have to use your best judgement on what your priorities are (what genre: classic rock, metal, modern rock etc.) and (bright or dark cleans, bright or dark overdrive, smooth or edgy etc.). The only thing I truly remember about my Triamp was that I hated the ceramic Blue Dog/Silver Bell that I had. It was harsh to my ears (good mid range honk and bite), not very smooth or musical.

Ok, so i'm between V30's and Greenbacks, a guy from celestion told me to... mix them.. not G12H + V30 but G12M+V30.. what do you think? Is it a sweet spot or rather lack of character? I don't see many of you using this combo.. You rather go for the first one..

I use a v30 / greenback on top and a g12h30 heritage and eminence texas heat on the bottom of one 4x12. A v30/g12h30 anniversary on top and a texas heat and g12t75 on the bottom of another 4x12. Love them both. I wouldnt mind the greenback being a higher wattage as it farts out a bit on the chug chug stuff if the volume is higher. Not too noticably though. My favorite combo is the first 4x12 I mentioned

I think the Greenback sounds best in a sealed 4 x 12 cabinet...like a Marshall cab. In an open back cab it lacks bass. It's a very chunky sound speaker with alot of the honky, chunky, slightly distorted midrange that's cool for a certain kind of crunchy Marshall tone.
The G12H30 has more bass and clearer bass and a more balanced and versatile tone, IMO. Sounds great in Fenders or Marshalls. I use them in my Deluxe Reverb amps.
I'm not a huge fan of the Greenback now that we have other choices...like the Vintage 30 and G12H30. I like both of those more than the G12M Greenback.
The Greenback is still a great speaker though, and IMO, usually better than most 12's that might come stock in most amps.

Why would you want to combine two speakers with weak bass response? I'd go with the G12H30 and V30 combo instead. Lew

Im just afraid It'll be too bassy in closed back 4x12 cab.. buying speakers without hearing them (and I don't have an opportunity) is hard.. kind of risky also.. anyway Lew do you think that alot depends on cab itself? Material etc.. Heard that those 1960's aint so good..

Marshall cabs are classic! Of course they sound "good". And four Vintage 30's get a killer sound in one...as do four Greenbacks...as do four G12H30's....and a mix of two and two of any of those great speakers would also sound killer.
You really could not go wrong with any of them in a Marshall bottem.
Personally I'd go with four G12H-30's....that's the Hendrix and Cream speaker, or so they say.

anyway, my cabinet (4 g12t-75's) has both: boomy bass and piercing treble/high mids.. You think that going for G12H30 + V30 combo in a closed 4x12 cab would do the job?? Would I get rid of those harming frequencies??
They say that G12H30 has even bigger bass and Vintage 30 even more treble/high mids..

Guys here tend to mix V30's with G12H30's to warm them up..
Personaly I havent heard eminence gb12... But choosing speakers combos really depends on your amp.. If amp's very bright you should warm it up with warm speakers, otherwise the sound could get piercing in treble/high mids..
My Triamp mk2 is a brightly tuned head and although id like to put some V30's into my cabinet, im afraid the tone would get too pronounced in the high end.. But I think im just gonna go the closest music store (i mean REAL music store, which is far from my town), and check out few cabs.. That's the only way to be sure so if you have an opportunity, just do so.. it costs you nothing
