What are the three best od-pedals You´ve ever had or tried?

The SD-2 is quite a cool little pedal. I was surprised someone mentioned it! Have you tried it with the footswitch yet?
Yup. I had a friend draw up a schematic for me. Built it DIY. :D

it just shows how people view things differently!

That was the main reason I started this thread, I wanted to get to know what are the basic OD tones people prefer.

It´s working pretty well so far!

I have an SD-2, also. That is a really cool pedal. It works great as a 2-channel preamp, since the 2 "channels" have totally independent tone, volume, and gain controls. The Crunch mode on that is probably the smoothest overdrive in my collection.

The G2D Classic Overdrive.

I haven't looked sideways at another overdrive/distortion since getting mine about three years ago.

Pushed for runners up, I'd say the rest of the G2D range, the Keeley Katana and Java Boosts, and my friend's original 9 series Ibanez Sonic Distortion and tonebender mk2 clone.

I love my CM Duplexer Rid special, which is a prototype Plexitone. I don't actually use the other 2 channels on my TSL anymore. I still like the Jekyll side of my J&H. One that surprised me, but was good fun to play with was the Line6 Tone Core O/D. I think it's called the CrunchTone.

i know i haven't played a ton of boo-teek pedals...but i seriously can't imagine liking any pedal more than my custom built Carl Martin!

i call it the "AC-PLEX"...it's like having the crispy/crunchy od of an old AC-30 and another channel in the same vein as a Plexi but even fatter and nastier!!! add a gain knob for each channel, a cut knob to adjust how much you want to slice and dice through the mix, a boost to instantly soar, and an overall volume knob to adjust how much you want it to dominate your sound!!!

i just can't think of anything else i'd ever want!?

It's tough to choose just three, and it depends on the application:

Klon Centaur
Keeley Time Machine Boost
Analog Man King of Tone v4
Boss BD-2 (Analog Man mod)
TS-9 (Analog Man 808 brown mod)

Of all those, the Klon knocked my jaw loose the most. I have one on order; should be here in a month or so. :)

I haven't used many OD pedals over the years, but the ones I have worked well for me. I find that certain pedals work better with certain amps and guitars. Here is what I have used and what worked for me.

1. Pro Co Rat. The original ones. Great fuzz/distortion. I used this with a Jazz Chorus amps about a gazillion years ago.

2. Boss Super OD. realatively cheap pedal and it works real well with a tube amp. I used this pedal for over 10 years with a Super Reverb with either a Les Paul, SG or a Strat and it worked well for me.

3. TS9 RI. I bought this to replace my Super OD. Much more natural sounding than some other pedals I have used.

4. Spina Modded TS9. I sent this pedal to John and he worked his magic on it. It is now and will always be on my Board. I use this with my Bogner Shiva and I use it a few ways. As a Clean boos (gain all the way down). As a very heavy od with the gain maxed out, and occasionally I set the gain at about 20%. All of this is done with the clean channel of the Shiva. The Drive channel on the SHiva needs nothing!

I would have to say, "Green Line Overdrive" by smart people factory, Zack Wylde Overdrive was pretty nice, and uhh, i havnt really liked the others i tried. My Dean Markly Overlord is a nice tube overdrive but it sucks tone like a mofo.... im gonna mod it someday...

I don't use OD's that much but when i do it is either an old Ibanez TS10.... or a really great sounding 80's tokia OD...

As for the SD-2, i absolutly love this pedal stock. It has 2 modes called Crunch and Lead. Crunch has a really transparent Fender amp like drive to it. I think its the Blackface sound with the mids slightly scooped and not slightly honky like the Tweeds. The other channel is called Lead. And it just oozes Marshall like qualities. Great for playing Deep Purple stuff and all things rock.

GREAT pedal. Sometimes I wish I still had mine. It's perfect in front of a really clean amp.

My 3 best I ever had/tried (no particular order):
1) Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive
2) MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive
3) Original black box Marshall Guv'nor
