What are y'all recording on?

I picked up a Zoom L-20 mixer on a black Friday deal last year, I can record directly to a SD card or use it as a USB interface. I really like it but haven't gotten a chance to do much recording on it yet.

I now have a minty M-Audio AIR 192|14 that I'm going to put up for sale now if you are looking.

For software I have Mixbus 32C, Magix Sound Forge, Reaper, and probably a few others. Trying to go all Mixbus, but I need to find the time to sit down and learn it.

A friend of mine is selling his Tascam midistudio 688. It’s quite amazing the technology involved into getting 8 simultaneous tracks on the 1/4” of tape in a casette. It did run at twice the speed of a standard casette playback to compensate, but you still wouldn’t imagine it could compare to 30ips on a 2”, but did anyway, especially with high fidelity metal tapes.

The few times I have recorded anything its guitar -> Headrush MX5 -> laptop-> waveform

Just curious, I'm getting back into it.

I'm using a very Spartan setup:
  • Behringer UMC204HD for interface
  • MacBook Air with GarageBand
End of list!

I have been able to make lots of good recordings with this setup. https://soundcloud.com/hunterjsmith

GarageBand is so good that it feels like cheating. I have used PC and Linux computers with Reaper, and a whole host of VSTs, but I prefer GarageBand because I can just grip it and rip it, you know? Not too much fiddling around.

I use GarageBand's built-in drums, EZDrummer, and Steven Slate Drums' free version for drums.

I use GarageBand's built in Amp modeler (very good) and the trial version of Guitar Rig 7 for guitar and bass sounds.

My band records into an old Tascam digital recorder. Then the files are transferred to a laptop for mixing. I don’t remember what program is used.

I go direct from a Line 6 Helix.

I have recorded with a mic’d amp before, but the Helix covers everything.
