For myself it's a SH-14 Custom 5 bridge & a Pearly Gates Neck, but I'm looking for something a lil different for my new one so please give me some ideas!!!!

I very nearly just bought a set of Seth's, I found a set on Flea-Bay for a really great price!!!

My only concern with them is the un-potted low output bridge pickup... I'm pretty sure I'd like the neck pup since I usually only throw low-moderate gain at it (if any at all) so squealing shouldn't be a issue there? That said, I do like a healthy dose of dirt from my bridge as well as a little more physical volume...

I love Pearly Gates (I have a set in another L.P.), 59's, W.L.H.'s, Etc. so I don't have any problems with Vintage wound pickups. I kinda actually prefer them to a lot of the pickups that are marketed as High Gain in most cases. A lot of the reason I've always liked the SH-14 is because in a lot of ways it behaves like a lower output pickup but it's louder so it offers a more balanced set when paired up with a vintage wind in the neck....

In the case of the above mentioned humbuckers they're all wax potted so you can toss a hefty amount of gain at them without much in the way of squealing or unwanted feedback...

I lean towards vintage: a set of high quality PAF's, like Seth's, which BTW are pretty feedback resistant. Also fond of WLH, A2P, Fralin's, & BB's. '59's with an UOA5 in the bridge and an A4 in the neck are nice (that should be the Vintage Blues set). I've never been able to bond with PG's or '57's.

For a hotter bridge, a Custom or a Fred, each with an UOA5. JB's are too unpredictable for me in mahogany (as Aceman estimated, a third of the time they get squirrely in that wood).

Don't forget the Mayhem set.

I'm thinking on trying a set of Seth lovers. I like to play blues, rock and some heavy rock. I also heard having a Seth in the neck and a Pearly Gates in the bridge is a nice all around combo. Thinking on trying that if I don't go with the Seth lover set.

I've been more than happy with the plain ol' 59s - in Triple Shots, and with the middle position wired electronically out of phase.

I like Seths and Antiquities, but the music I play is likely different, too. I don't use a ton of distortion (hardly ever), and dig clean, dynamic sounds. This is the great thing about LPs- they can do a lot of things so well.

Re: What Are Your Favorite Duncan Humbuckers for a L.P.???

So I thought about dropping in a older SH-1B/SH-1N Vintage Blues set but I couldn't find any that didn't cost a crazy amount of money so I decided to go with a W.L.H. set for this one instead?

I had a set in my old L.P. Special & they sounded pretty flipping fantastic!!! I'm anxious to hear them in this guitar since it's a WAY more resonant & acousticly sound guitar. This time I think I'm going to cover the neck humbucker in an effort to smooth it out just a touch?

If I had a complaint about the WLH's it would be that they are almost too perfect. Hopefully the combination of all around better instrument, the Maple cap, & the cover on the neck pup will ofer a little more tonal verity between the two pickups? If not the Whole Lotta Bridge's sound great with a rough-cast A2 in em!!!

Which would be better for hard rock and blues in the bridge... the 59 or Seth Lover?

'59B's are pretty bright and mid scooped. I like them better with a warm magnet. Seth's on the other hand, are great as-is.

I like PAFs as well.

Burstbucker 1&2 A2s in my Historics; to me they're like vintage Tele pickups, just bigger.

The '57 Classics are warmer, darker. Smooth and sweet.

Seths are kinda in between these two. Warmth, yet they are very clear. No mud allowed. Well balanced.

And then there's Ants. I love the smoky, chewy mids. Warm, clear, classic.

All good.

Saturday Night Specials, a little less bass than the WLH and the neck doesn't feel so overpowered. I love the APH2 set as well so fat and fun to play.

Alnico pro/custom custom
59/custom
Pearly gates set
Pearly gates/custom custom
59n/59custom hybrid
Seth set
WLH set
Mayhem set
Black winter set
To name a few in duncan lineup. And I can continue with a different vendor. The question is:
What is the tone you want to get from that guitar?
