What basses do y'all use?

My main bass in general is a Warwick Thumb 4 neck-through.

Right now I am practicing on a Gibson Thunderbird. I have a set of Thunderbuckers for it, but didn't put them in yet.

i really like the czec spector basses, used one for a while when i was playing a lot more bass. good necks, good tones, and really comfy on a strap

5 string American j bass was my favorite for most of my career, but sold it when I got an incredible offer.

Surprisingly, my ancient rogue 6 string is my current favourite...low action with heavy strings

Have an old Hondo 4 string that I never play but I'm the market for a 4 string Sterling... Unbelievable for the cost.

Those Sterling Stingrays are like the best deal in basses right now.

How do you like the neck on it? I really like the thunderbird sound and shape, but I've always found the necks too wide.

I don't find it too wide. I started with classical guitar so I am used to wide necks.

But the neck is too far to the left of my body. It somewhat screws up playing without looking.

The only thing I'd change about the Sub4 from the factory is the taper of the volume control. The stock taper audio taper was like a switch, I play my bass clean, so a linear taper pot was a HUGE improvement for me.

I use an Ibanez SR500E as my only bass. A bassist friend recommended it to me on the basis of having a sleeker, more guitar-like neck than most basses, and I've found it to be quite playable.

How does it compare to an actual Rick?

No idea, I’ve never played one lol.

Seriously though, it sounds close enough for me. Although, I think I have the wrong pots in there. I used 250Ks and it’s a little dark. Some actual Ric owners on TalkBass told me to use 500Ks. But I haven’t got around to changing them yet.

Still, it’s a fun bass to play. And it looks cool. ;)

The Rick I am most familiar with is my high school friend's '76, which had THE sound all Rick players try for. It was a really cool bass that he left behind in his parent's garage when he moved out. Years later, his sisters, who didn't talk to him anymore at that point, just tossed it out. :onder:
