What basses do y'all use?

I have a couple of Ibanez 4 string SRs
but I recently got a headless short scale that get the most love right now

I saw some videos over the holidays about the Gear4music Bass VI knockoffs

I wanted one of the SRC6 models back a few years ago . But never found a jumping point.


Right now I plan to either wait for Ibanez to make a headless version of the SRC6

Or get one of the Asian builders I know to make me one

In fact I think Richard has replied to the email I sent him two weeks ago

I may need to follow up on that
 
I use lightweight Ibanez PJ basses for jams and rehearsing.



Also have a Blacktop Jazz Bass with two pairs of Pbass pickups. Big tone and good noise rejection.
Hardly using it these days I miss the punchy/midrangey snot that a JB bridge pickup gives you.


I have a few nicer ones for recording and performing.

My old '72 Ibanez Jazz Bass. Sounds huge and I used it on quite a few records back in the age of vinyl.
But it weighs a full 12 pounds and I can hardly play a full set on it anymore.



'65 Hagstrom short scale bass for the retro / vintagey thing.



Thunderbird in Deep Impact Blue, a Ford color. Had it custom made in '08 for some reunion shows with one of my 80s bands.
Maltese cross inlays, and the cutaway is placed exactly right so that I can slide up to the 19th fret without looking.
The thing feels about ten feet long but it looks great onstage. I named it Thunderbeast.
 
Harley Benton is legit. I have two basses and one guitar. My other bass, besides the Ric copy, is a JB75 which is their 70s Jazz bass. I put a few upgrades into it and it plays and sounds amazing.

It's HEAVY as f*ck though lol. Solid ash. I had to buy a nice padded 4.5 inch strap specifically to play it with, otherwise it kills my shoulders.

Wide strap really helps with a heavy guitar (also helps minimize neck dive with the Thunderbird).
I use a wide one for my heaviest Les Paul (about 10 lbs) too.

I really should get a padded strap for the 12-pound Ibanez.
 
Once upon a time, I owned a B.C. Rich Ironbird NJ Series (red). Sold it in 1994. A couple years ago I got the itch again and bought a Spector Legend 4 string.
 
I didn't spend much on mine either

It eas pearl white and dirt cheap

I gave it away or sold it on about 15 years ago

Bout the same size and intonates

But if yours works for you I can say nothing
I got mine for the same reason you got yours

I think I might convert my Charvel to BEAD tuning. I just don't use the G on it all that much
 
Once I was no longer playing bass full-time in a band (had to stop due two a couple members having different paths in life they needed to take... understandable), I sold 2 of mine and kept the Fender Jazz Bass. It's the best of the 3 and I was definitely keeping at least one.
 
I have one of the modern Epi Embassy basses that I really love, the 60's style T-Bird pickups sound great and it plays fantastic
 
When I do Need to Track a Real Bass on a Take - I use my Passed-away Friend's ( who His Wife gave Me ) a vintage Black + white Peavey, it Records well
