What basses do y'all use?

My only bass is a 4-string Squier P-Bass with SD Quarter Pounder pickup and half-round strings that feel amazing!

Paid about $400 for it during the pandemic and couldn't be happier!

the qp p bass pup is pretty sweet. ive used it in builds before and the client always loved it. it doesnt sound vintage, but it sounds great

the only bass i own is an epiphone wildkat, short scale and got flats on it. when i play live i usually use my buddys 60s p bass or 70s jazz bass. he uses his '77 gibson ripper

What’s your opinion on the Ripper? I’ve never had a chance to hear them in the club scene.

As for a bass, I’m using a Squier 70s trib type P bass. Works fine for me at this point.

Thunderbird in Deep Impact Blue, a Ford color. Had it custom made in '08 for some reunion shows with one of my 80s bands.
Maltese cross inlays, and the cutaway is placed exactly right so that I can slide up to the 19th fret without looking.
The thing feels about ten feet long but it looks great onstage. I named it Thunderbeast.

That's the second sweetest bass I've ever seen!

I just made a Graffiti Yellow 5 string Jazz which rules, and I bought a Sire Marcus Miller V7 4 string Jazz a few years ago - the Sire is really great, better than MIA Fender, highly recommended.

I've had this Squier 70s VM bass for about 15 years. It reliably does everything I want from a bass. The original pickups weren't terrible, but I swapped in some SD Apollo J-bass pickups and now they sound even better and there's no hum which makes recording easier.

I think you should consider an Ibanez 5 string, since you're writing stuff on 7 string guitar. That way you can have the low range without losing the high string. The SR necks are very comfortable coming from guitar, great profile and not too wide. Better hardware than that Peavey. My SR505 has been going strong for 20 years. Not glamorous, but you can probably find a used one in the $350-400 range.

Did not even think about that. Matt was playing most of the 7-string stuff on his 4-string, but he had just bought a 5-string.

Securb Well shoot, I spoke too soon, it looks like $450 is now a "decent" price for an SR505 in good shape. Still worth trying imo if you have the budget.
