What bridge HB for a very bright hard ash body strat?

Re: What bridge HB for a very bright hard ash body strat?

If you really like the guitar try a 78'. I have one in my hard ash Strat that sounds fantastic! Cleans up well too!
That's my favorite Duncan humbucker. But I'd save it for a guitar I loved.

+1, I've got it in a Charvel Clone that Xssive built , ash body/rosewood neck , hardtail bridge and the 78 sounds really nice in there

Before you give up and sell the body (and since you've gone through a fair amount of Duncans), PLEASE try a Dimarzio Air Zone or Tone Zone.
I prefer the Air Zone- but the TZ is great also. They both sound phenomenal when split.

Lone Phantom suggested the TZ also, and he is someone who demo's lots of pickups.

Do you still have the 59/cc? Did you try it with an A2? If not, that might do the trick. I have a guitar that is giving me the same trouble (les paul style, though). I just took out a slash set
and replaced it with a 59/c with an A2 and I like this better. Good luck with this.

Pearly gates is a great pickup and might work but actually... The rtm is what you want...that pickup was made to combat harshness...

Otherwise superD...

yeah, the RTM was what I was thinking of when I mentioned CS territory. someone just put it to me the other day that if they made the RTM a production model that it might put the JB out of business. lol! well, I'm not 100% on-board with that, but I think it's an awesome option for a guitar like this one.

Air Zone/Tone Zone is great recommendation.

Re: What bridge HB for a very bright hard ash body strat?

I received some week ago a Super Distortion F spaced I'm planning to put it in my Jaguar, I didn't try it before in the strat because I thought it was too similar to the SD Custom, but it's in your advice list so it's an experiment at 0 price.
Then I think I'll try the Tone Zone or the AT-1. How do they differ in your opinion from the Super D and the SD Custom?

Thank you all

Completely different animals. The Super D has substantially more low end. It is well known in Guitar mythology that the Ash Strat/Super D combination gives birth to epic events. I heard in the beginning of time, the soldering of the Super D into an Ash guitar caused the Big Bang and therefore created the universe. The second time someone did it, Van Halen I happened.

+1:scratchch Yes, I heard that lol!

Re: What bridge HB for a very bright hard ash body strat?

I'm getting a bit frustrated with my hard ash strat / rosewood neck at the point I'm thinking about getting rid off that body.

I' was looking for a good all around PU, especially with soft crunch to moderate higher gain, the tone you can still clean up with the volume pot.

I tried a number of HB in bridge position, installed for a while, enough to tune my ears (at least a couple of months), then changed them, here is the list:

- SD '59 nails on a chalckboard and a giant black hole sucking the mids
- GFS VEH grammy award for the worst interaction wood / pickup ever
- SD A2P too much bright, output level too low
- SD JB screaming mid high, like a hammer on an anvil
- SD CC middy, strange bass, I'd say clumsy
- SD Custom too much dry, lifeless, like sandpaper on iron on highs
- '59/CC hybrid nor fish nor flesh, uninspiring

I tried every thing with 500K and 250K vol pot.

Any idea before selling the body or using as a fireplace log?

It sounds like nothing will make you happy, so how about just having a pickguard made that covers the hole for the bridge humbucker. Problem solved by way of elimination.

A pretty extreme solution, indeed :D
