What bridge P/U would you pair up with an SH-2n in an LP?

Re: What bridge P/U would you pair up with an SH-2n in an LP?

I've got the same guitar as you and play almost the same style of music. For me it's the JB. I don't find it that shrilled when you're in a band situation. It can be shrilly but overall performance of the JB is great! I went through quite a few pickups from Rio Grande, Seymour Duncan, Motorcity, J.S Moore and Dimarzio. I came back to the JB.

There's a lot of posts here complaining about JB's in mahogany, especially LP's (ice pick spike, flabby low end, dentist drill tone, etc). While it works for some guys, that doesn't seem to be the norm. The JB is just too fussy to be recommended across the board. He's better off with a '59 which has a higher rate of user satisfaction.

Im sure that you're probably very happy with your SH-2 in the neck-but i have a 57 classic in the neck with a JB in the bridge and i have never been happier with this tone.. (used for jazz and blues)

As a blues player, I find JB's are notoriously picky about the woods they sound good in. I've tried several JB's, in several different guitars, and none fit the classic rock, & British and Chicago blues I play. The dreaded spike popped up. But, with an A2 magnet, it's a whole new PU; warmer and richer sounding. Much better. A number of guys here use an A8 in their JB's. Moral of the story: JB's are hit or miss, and be prepared to swap magnets if you get one.

Custom... the ultimate Les Paul bridge pickup.

Depends on the kind of music you play; it sure ain't my 'ultimate' PU.

Nor mine...I'll take a Lindy Fralin any day!

I also don't really like the Jazz in the neck of a solidbody...now in a 335 style? YES!

Re: What bridge P/U would you pair up with an SH-2n in an LP?

Ok... how's this: The ultimate hard rock Les Paul pickup.

However, I think it works great for any style. I can go from blues to rock to 70s AOR tones with the volume knob. TO me, the Custom doesn't have the same top end harshness of say the Distortion.

Initial tests indicate that the Custom with an unoriented A5 is even better than a C8. More of that responsive, organic A2 feel. Great in an LP, I'm going to try it in a 335 next.
