What Bridge Strat pickup

I want to put a single coil sized humbucker in a strat. The neck and middle are Fender Custom Texas Specials.
I play mainly blues and classic rock. I want this rig to have a humbucker, classic rock bridge. What would you guys suggest?

I like the Dimarzio Pro Track a lot, but it's not hot if that's what you need. But it is supposed to sound like a P.A.F. I think so you might like that. Dimarzio has a broader catalog regarding single sized hbs so you can check them out. Out of the Duncan line, I really like the Lil '59. It's really close to the full sized one, but not exactly the same. The full one is thicker, but that doesn't mean the little one is thin. At all. The Tone Zone S is also very good.

Wanna specify a little more about what you want? Bright, tight, crunchy, fat, etc...

Welcome to the forum :)

For classic rock and blues I would go with the Lil '59. I had one in the bridge position of my Strat for a long time when I was using it to back up my Les Paul! It's as near to a PAF-style humbucker tone as you will find in a single-coil size pickup. Sounds great.

Re: What Bridge Strat pickup

I would go the full sized humbucker route and get a PATB-3.

Re: What Bridge Strat pickup

Welcome to the forum. I agree that if you're going for a single-sized humbucker, the Lil '59 is probably your best bet.

Re: What Bridge Strat pickup

You cannot get the full, fat, ballsy tone of paf humbucker in a single coil size.

You can get about halfway there with pickups like the Hot Rails, JB JR, Little 59, etc.

I think about half way there is about as good as you're gonna get...and for many it's good enough.

What Lew said, but I'm going to toss my vote for the Lil '59. I had one and it's the best sounding Lil' bucker in the Duncan line, IMO. It sounds the closest to it's full-size counterpart out of all of them. The only other single-coil sized humbucker I heard (and have) that sounds like it's full-size counterpart is the DiMarzio Air Norton S, but that one is best in the neck position.

Yeah, Li'l '59 if you aren't going full size.
Otherwise I'd suggest a Pearly Gates, '59, or even a Custom Custom.

Re: What Bridge Strat pickup

I think I will go with the lil 59. I dont want to mess with the pick guard right now. Thanks for the help

Re: What Bridge Strat pickup

Just to make sure, my Strat was SSS but "under the hood" (i.e. under the pickguard) it was actually routed for HSS. IF yours is as well (VERY possible) then all you'll be needing is to get a new pickguard and transfer everything there.

Talking from experience the mini h thing is good for starters but soon enough you still miss the other half way to a bucker in the bridge...

I've tried a duncan designed hot rails in a squier hot rails strat, and it was nice in the bridge (but sucked in middle and neck). I've owned some Classic Stack Plus pickups before, but those to me sounded a little lacking in chime. Still, for what it's worth, if it was me, I'd try the Classic Stack first, then the Hot Rails, but that's just me. What classic rock and blues are we talking? (You can usually play those just fine with a single coil, like a Custom or a Hot: heck even my A2P single coil bridge can do that).
