what can you tell about this Half stack?

Re: what can you tell about this Half stack?

Have you played it? Is it really what you want? Do you just want a half stack? Or just the Marshall name? Or do you specifically want that. Because I personally wouldn't touch that with a 20ft pole.

No I don't play this model never, only I heard the demo sound and that's the sound that I'm searching for... but is there something better, please bring it...

Re: what can you tell about this Half stack?

The best advice is to try it out. The Marshall MG series isn't the best sounding Marshall, but it does have it's place. If this is in your pricerange, and YOU like the tone, then it's ok. The nice thing is that MF and other retailers have a liberal return/exchange policy if you can't try it before you buy it.

Re: what can you tell about this Half stack?

Do a search for the MG series on this forum and see what people have got to say, i don't hate it as much and some, but there are much better places to put your money.

I don't live in america so i don't know how far that amount of money would get you, but i am far happyier with a second hand tube amp over my MG, i just can't get the MG to cut well in a band situation.

Re: what can you tell about this Half stack?

Well all I can say is: It'll make sound,it'll make your guitar louder (The very basics of an amplifier lol). As for tone, forget about it. It's an overpriced not very good sounding waste of time. There are far better options for around the same price or less.

Like wish one?

Re: what can you tell about this Half stack?

I've just listened the sound clips.
It sounds great, but I've played MG, and I see no way yo get that sound!
Maybe if you have a 2000$ Gibson, and a 1000$ Tube Sound Processor, and you play it through MG100s clean channel with volume at 20% :)

line 6 flextone I head, used: about $400
used decent 2-12" wired for 4 ohms: about $250-300
maybe a 4-12" if you're really set on a traditional half stack. I'd go carvin.

bam. 300 watts of useful amp.

OR, a decent 2-12" combo, used, like maybe the old marshall valvestate and a 2-12" extension cab. not quite as loud as you would expect though.

I've never played one, but those clips sounded pretty darn good.

Yeah, didn´t they.... IMO a bit too good... I´ve played a few MGs and was more than a bit surprised....:eek13:

Studio Magic...

and I suspect those are recorded with the DI. The headphone out/DI actually sounds pretty good.

Bottom line...MGs CAN get some good tones if you fool with it enough.

But really there is much better for the money; Vox modellers as mentioned. It does the Marshall sounds worlds better than the MG will..whether it;s Plexi, 800, or TSL. Grab a 50W ADT50 combo and run a 2x12 with it.

Used Line 6 Flextones as mentioned are another good option.

If you must go with a non-modelling SS amp, Randall is pretty much "king". Some of the Peavey Transtubes sound decent too.

EDIT: the B52 Solid State amps are pretty dang good too.
