What causes this sound

Some pickups I use create this nasty clanging noise when I trill pick unpalm muted on lower strings. I am not a fan of this.
Pickups that don't do this

Invader
Emg 81
Manlius custom hot
Alt 8
Pickups that do
Jb
Custom
Distortion

Is this the upper mid "honk" I'm hearing?
Anybody know what I'm talking about

Re: What causes this sound

On what guitar does this nasty clanging overtone noise occur?

Re: What causes this sound

Any guitar........ any that I have owned....... are u suggesting it has somthing to do with output kramersteen?
I think it's some kind of frequency

I just find some pickups need constant supervision . I bet you could add the x2n to that list too. I battle that sort of thing with height adjustment and amp eq. But i don't really know too much haha

Ok..... well I'm not nuts then lol

I bet if you had a guitar with a pickup/pickups angled opposite to most, ie high E towards the nut it would help combat this. This would make the high notes a tad warmer which would help cut down on that shrill. That's my theory anyway.

Re: What causes this sound

It sounds like you are running into a problem with the peak resonant frequency of the pickup. If you have access to a graphic EQ look up the peak resonant frequency on the SD soundchart and then play around a little with increasing/decreasing that frequency range with the EQ. You can do a number of things to address this problem such as using a parametric or graphic EQ, changing pot values or you can try and tweak the pickups response by changing the magnet, polepieces and the baseplate. All of these can either attenuate or shift the resonant frequency. I found that even though I love the Full Shred I can't use it in Standard E! If it's in D or lower it's just fine but not in E.

Really good point about resonant peaks and downtuning.
