What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

I speak of course of the 6V6 Plexi - plexi tones at Deluxe volumes. Much more practical than a 50 watt Marshall, more flexible than an 18 Watter.

That sounds great. There's a thinking guitar player for ya! :)

Re: What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

I think the old Fender Champs, the Valco amp Jimmy Page used on the Led Zeppelin studio recordings with the 15" speaker, Marshall 18-watters, deserve a comeback. Small amps are always good. And they could be offered in both combo and head and combo with 1-12, 1-10, 1-15 models as well. I've always wanted a Fender Champ with a 12 inch speaker because there are so many good choices for it.

Re: What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

Sunn amps, The orange OR80(they would sell a million of these), and Silvertone amps.

And what he said!

Re: What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

Laney Supergroup or Klipp.

I just did a search for that Laney Supergroup, ToneHeaven said it's a great amp and can still be found for $400 but they expect those prices to start going up. Is there truth to any of that? If that really is the case then....:33: :?:

I'm guessin' it is very Plexi Marshall-ish.

Ampeg Reverb O Rocket or a Gemeni. Those AMps back in the day were very underrated and were affordable for us Kids:)

Re: What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

I want a tweed champ in a head with an 8 ohm out or a brownfaced deluxe in a head.

That is the Supro Thunderbolt. Awesome amp, simple circuit, incredible sound. I wish I could find a better scehmatic.

The 6V6 Plexi has my interest too, though. :beerchug:

Gt, you nailed it. The Supergroup is a PTP amp much like the Marshall Plexi. It is usually seen as silverfaced and can be mistaken for an old radio.

The Klipp is a Laney from the 70's and had an interesting way of making distortion. Something to look into.

Both are hard to find, the Klipp is near impossible. You can find some supergroups, but $400 is a thing of the past. Here is a Supergroup on Egay,

http://cgi.ebay.com/1969-LANEY-SUPE...ryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

But, it is from G-tardcenter, so just use it for reference.

Plexi's make me hot too. You gotta have a great sound first before you add distortion. Then add distortion as flavor. ;)

Is that why you like Laney's? You get your tone first, then add a some distortion for spice. FWIW, I remember that the first amp that you suggested to me was a Laney.

Sunn Model T without a doubt, also, the original Ampeg V4s for guitar.

Re: What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

There is a Supro Thunderbolt on ebay right now floating around for roughly $600.

Re: What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

SUNN amps, like the Model T, 1200S, 190, 350. And the Music Man amps. Some of these amps would need to be modernized.

PTP-wired reissues of the old Fenders would be in very high demand.

The Heartbreaker and Tremoverb are two great Mesa amps.

But, the Mesa Mark III may be the best club amp for the gigging musician ever made. I have two, and never been happier with my tone.

Re: What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

Hiwatt Bulldog 50 1x12" combo...amazing amp w/6CA7 tubes...
white tolex 1x12" Vibrolux...
3x10" brown Bandmaster...

Re: What Classic Amp needs to make a comeback?

Hand wired 60s ampeg jet and reverberocket amps using common modern tubes would be very cool.

I'd love a nice blondeface or brownface fender built to victoria standards. In fact, I'd love to gut my custom vibrolux reverb and have it handwired and respeakered by someone like yourself...

How about a variation on Victoria's double deluxe: a double BLACKFACE deluxe. That would be a super killer gigging amp. Perhaps even have one side using 6l6 and one side using 6v6, both with volumes that you can mix. I can taste it...
