Bought this Squier off Craigslist. By the serial #, I'm thinking it's an '04.

I need to get the action lower, and was thinking of eventually making it an HSS, but it'll probably stay all single coil for now. It's my only single coil guitar.

Can someone tell me if this is the cheapest of cheap Squier's. If it ends up sounding good and playing nice, it doesn't matter much. Just curious.

Oh, and I got it for $65 with the soft case.

That's an SE model. It's full thickness, which is a plus. You can put a full block MIM bridge on it. Tuners are functional, but could use an upgrade. It's routed HSS. Some of those are actually made out of alder.

I'll probably get a chance to change the strings tomorrow, that'll give me an opportunity to look under the pickguard. I'll try to get a good pic of the wood. I'm not sure what alder would look like.

You'd have to look in the neck pocket to even guess. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's solid wood. Try to figure out what the stock pickups are lacking, and go from there.

the Bullet (Ultra Cheap) and thinnest body
and the Affinity (next to Ultra Cheap) and slightly thicker body than Bullets
are both marked as such on the headstock

For $65 that's a great deal of a guitar. A mini is $99. Just enjoy the heck out of it.
