hmmm...tube screamer is smoother less gritty distortion, ds1 is raunchier marshall tone... sounds like a tubescreamer would be exactly what the doctor ordered in my case.
How does your surfer strat sound like with the tubescreamer? as thats my config right now.
How much overdrive can one get out of a tube screamer, do both the TS9 and TS808 sound pretty much the same as eachoter when modded and how much is it for one of your mods john? LOL pedal gas, but i got some cash reserves to back it up!

The TS808 and the TS9 are the same circuit once you change 2 resistors and the opamp...Both pedals get bigtime upgrades both in tone and noise factor..You don't get alot of gain from a Tube Screamer compared to the DS1...The Tube Screamer "simulates" nicely,the tone of an american 6L6 amp cranked up to 11....The DS1 is more british Marshall sounding...

The TS is warm,smooth,and gives you nice round,full,overdriven tone with sustain....

The DS1 is tight and crunchy,brighter,and has lots more gain...It's aggressive compared to the sweeter tone of a TS..IM me on the mod prices and other questions..

Hughes/Kettner Tube Factor. It stays fat in the mix, rather than getting thin like so many solid state pedals that I've owned. This thing sounds killer when you have a decent amp and get some volume behind it.. very pro sounding.. big, fat, juicy.. heh

For a total Marshall type crunch: Barber Direct Drive SS.

It is the most realistic "Marshall in a box" pedal I have ever heard.

my favorite overdrive is the ts-9 and for distortion/fuzz big muff pi...of course with a compressor before the od and dist and a eq after makes a huge difference in tone...
mmm stratdeluxer those mods sound rather nice...( read: gas)

would a ts9 sound good in an amp that has bad distortion? my peavey classic has no good distortion, but the cleans are magnificent. My digitech hotrod sounds good through it, would a ts9 (which is an overdrive right?) sound good through the same amp?

Yes, if your into fuzz. All those mini-toggles give me everything from heavy distortion, to fuzz, octave fuzz, self oscillation, and lo-fi fuzz, with a couple of wierd sounds that come out of various swtich combinations.

But he doesn't build them anymore. He told me they were to complex to build reliably.
