What do Nazgul/Sentient sound like split?

I have a Telecaster copy with a mahogany body, maple neck and maple fretboard in the mail. The guitar has 2 humbuckers. I already know they don't sound all that hot.

I'm a metalhead and I was considering the Nazgul & Sentient combo. However while I'm at it I was considering adding a coil tap volume to the guitar at the same time.

Are they "twangy" with the coils split? I don't do much country or blues but it would be a nice option to have if it was worth bothering?

While the Nazgul is great for heavy music, sounding like an actual Tele isn't one of the things it does well. The Pegasus is a better choice if you want versatility with different kinds of music.

You need a lower output coil to get twang. I wonder if a 59/Custom split to the 59 coil would do the trick? Or is that not hot enough overall? Custom shop could make you a Sentient/Nazgul hybrid or whatever it takes to get twang on the split but still be metal in series.

The Sentient sounds GREAT split. Gets you nice twang. I have no trouble dialing up blues tones from it either, when split.

The Nazgul doesn't really benefit from splitting IMO. What it does, it does extremely well, but it's not the most versatile pickup out there.

It's not every day I hear a neck pickup described as twangy.

I second the recommendations of the Pegasus or 59/Custom Hybrid in the bridge, with my preference going to the Hybrid. These are both very versatile pickups that can do all of what you describe. I would recommend splitting to the Custom (slug) coil on the Hybrid though for best results. The 59 coil sounds thin and shrill when split.

Another option is adjusting your right hand to pick closer to the bridge when you want a twangier sound.

To answer that question this is the Sentient/ Hybrid both split through my Boogie Subway Rocket. Combo also rips on heavier stuff in full hum bucking mode BTW!
