It was alright, modulation was sort of weak. Wasn't anything I havent heard before in 10 different pedals.
Deluxe Memory Man is hands down the cooler/better sounding pedal when it comes to BBD delay with mod, but the MXR does get the nod with the size factor.

I have one, and I like it in my setup.
It is a very dark sounding delay, as you can tell from the demo. I like the darkness, because the repeats "get out of the way" of the dry guitar sound. But, I have a TTE, as well, which is capable of much fatter and clearer sounds with real tape wow and flutter (e.g., "modulation")...I use them for different applications.
I would not necessarily want the carbon copy as my only delay because of its darkness, but that's just me. Nor would I want it for the modulation feature alone...as stated by others, the modulation is very, very subtle, even after adjusting the trim pots inside (it is not a replacement for a deluxe memory man, or a tape echo, if that is what you're thinking).

I was just doing some research on some delay pedals since my DLS Echotap recently crapped out on me. The MXR Carbon Copy looks like it's a great pedal. It's apparently not true bypass, but from what I've heard it really doesn't color a thing. The simplicity is what caught my eye and it looks like the best analog delay around for the money. I mean, c'mon, it looks great, has some sweet modulation (which can be changed radically with one resistor change - for those that say it doesn't do much apparently that one resistor change makes all the difference there), and tonally it's not as dark or muddy as some like the AD900 or as bright as a digital delay - so it seems like a nice middle ground. For the money it seems like a great deal and I was dangerously close to pulling the trigger on one yesterday.
I ended up just ordering an Eventide Timefactor, but that's simply because a) I wanted to purchase something I had no question would be able to work for my rig (I've owned some "analog" pedals before like the Hughes & Kettner Replex and not cared for it) and b) the versatility and programmable banks were really enticing. I'm looking forward to being able to dial in long digital delays, short analog slapback and crazy stuff like reverse echo all from one pedal from a few different presets. It's a little more expensive, but if I think about how much I've spent on some pedals (like the $220 for the DLS Echotap), $400 doesn't seem so bad considering it'll replace two or more delays.

Just so you know that "simple" resister change involves changing a TINY resister with a pair of tweezers and I wouldn't risk it if it were me...also the only thing it will change is the depth, not the rate at all...and while we're at it Jorge Tripps (Way Huge and designer of the Carbon Copy among MANY others) says that the carbon copy IS true bypass...

Ibanez make an analog delay for $99. The information I've gathered indicates that it's just as good or better. I'm going to A/B them tomorrow and see which comes out on top!

What delay is that?? The AD-9 is the least expensive analog delay from Ibanez that I know of and it's $140...

I've thought about the MXR for the longer delay time, but I've heard the AD-9 can be modded for longer times, and I really don't use it for more than ambiance/slap anyway. If I want longer times, I'll go digital so I can get tap tempo as well. If I find myself wanting the best sounding delay, I'll go tape.

I honestly don't really like analog delays anymore because they just sound so muddy, and digital sounds so cold and steril.
Tape totally spoils you to the point where nothing else sounds good lol
Its so thick and warm sounding yet still have great clarity, and due to the wow and flutter its got this amazing organic quality thats not steril or machine like. And then having the 3 heads for some crazy variations is beyond awesome.
I'm still blown away everytime I turn on my Space Echo. Slapback, long dub echo's, everything it does just sounds "right". Its how you think those sounds should sound in your head.
You just can't beat tape.

It's only 300ms though. The Carbon Copy is 600ms, that delay time can make or break the pedal for some people. Not to mention, the Carbon Copy is going to be more versatile with the mod feature.

Perfect! Very well put.
IMO It does not need to be advertised as having modulation because it is so weak I honestly couldn't tell a difference when it was on even while adjusting the internal trims!

I agree. If you're thinking of buying it just because of the modulation...forget it, it is too subtle to really be a "feature" of this pedal.
